CAA declares seven lab tests equal to PCR-based test of COVID-19

Ahead of increasing Coronavirus cases in Pakistan, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has on Tuesday modified its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for international passengers which declared seven laboratory tests equivalent to PCR-based test of COVID-19.

The civil aviation authority stated in its notification that seven tests will be considered as equivalent to PCR testing for detection of COVID-19.

Passengers holding negative reports of any of the seven tests will be considered as fulfilling the requirements of RT-PCR testing in accordance with the defined regulations.

The seven tests are listed below:

  1. Real Time RT-PCR for Covid-19
  2. Real Time RT-PCR for SARS-Cov-2
  3. RT-PCR for COVID-19
  4. RT-PCR for SARS-Cov-2
  5. PCR for COVID-19
  6. PCR for SARS-Cov-2
  7. Xpert Xpress SARS-Cov-2 or SARS-Cov-2 GeneXpert

The new version of SOPs was sent to airlines, operators, ground handling agents, authorized flights permission agents and directed to inform passengers who are willing to travel to Pakistan.

Earlier on Monday, CAA had banned the entry of visitors to all airports across the country to curb the spread of second wave of the deadly pandemic.

According to the CAA, drivers will be allowed to drop passengers at the airports’ drop lines and those coming to pick travellers up will be required to wait in their vehicles until flyers’ arrival.

On Sunday, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has imposed strict measures to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus at the country’s airport.

According to the details, at Karachi airport, only one visitor will be allowed as well as at the Bacha Khan and Quetta international airports. People who will be coming to receive their guests from the airport are directed to wait in their own vehicles.

On the airport premises, wearing a face mask has been made mandatory for everyone.

Earlier in the month, CAA had issued new travel guidelines for the passengers in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has continued its departmental action against employees over the issuance of fake licences as three more employees have been terminated from their services.

The aviation authority has terminated three employees including an officer of CAA’s regulatory licence branch and a joint director.

According to the spokesperson, the terminated employees have been found involved in the issuance of suspicious licences to the pilots.

The latest decision of terminating employees was taken in accordance with the regulations after the conclusion of the departmental procedures.

Earlier, CAA had issued show-cause notices to five employees including senior officers besides suspending their services during an inquiry over their alleged involvement in malpractices in the issuance of licences to pilots.

Those suspended include the CAA licencing branch’s senior joint director and Human Resources (HR) supervisor.

The accused persons were facing charges of allowing pilots to appear in exams through their proxies.
