IBM has decided to halt advertising on X (formerly Twitter) after reports revealed its ads were placed alongside posts praising Adolf Hitler and Nazism.
The company expressed that it finds it “completely unacceptable” for its content to appear in such threads on the platform.
X stated that it does not intentionally place brands “next to this kind of content.” This development follows criticism of X owner Elon Musk for endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory on the platform.
According to left-leaning watchdog Media Matters for America, IBM, along with other companies like Apple, Oracle, Bravo, and Xfinity, had their ads found next to posts containing Hitler quotes, Nazi praise, and Holocaust denial.
IBM promptly suspended all advertising on X while investigating the situation.
Elon Musk has faced backlash for his comments on antisemitic conspiracy theories and has criticized social media watchdogs for challenging his content moderation changes on X.
