In a bid to streamline and enhance the sale and purchase of vehicles, the Caretaker Prime Minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, has issued a directive to establish a ‘Car City’ in the nation’s capital. This ambitious initiative aims to alleviate traffic and parking issues caused by showrooms and create a centralized hub for vehicle exhibitions, auctions, and sales in Islamabad.
The announcement came during a meeting addressing various matters concerning the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), where officials were tasked with developing a comprehensive plan for the Car City project. This visionary move aligns with the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and facilitating the daily lives of its citizens.
The meeting also featured discussions on ongoing projects of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the performance of Islamabad Police, and the critical issue of illegal encroachments within the capital.
To address the pressing traffic and parking problems associated with vehicle showrooms across Islamabad, Prime Minister Kakar emphasized the need for a holistic plan for a car city at a strategically chosen location in the city. This facility will serve as a one-stop destination for both buyers and sellers, making the process of acquiring a vehicle more convenient and efficient.
In addition to the Car City project, the meeting revealed plans for introducing 160 new buses to enhance public transportation in Islamabad. These measures will contribute to reducing traffic congestion and improving the overall mobility of the city’s residents.
The Caretaker Prime Minister also proposed the implementation of a centralized digital system for car registration across the country. This move will simplify and streamline the registration process, making it more accessible for citizens and contributing to a more organized vehicle registration system.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Kakar directed officials to issue fitness certificates for older vehicles based on internationally recognized environmental pollution standards. This step aims to mitigate the environmental impact of older vehicles and ensure they comply with modern environmental standards, promoting cleaner and safer transport.
Notably, the caretaker government’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure and transportation. The Prime Minister instructed the police to take strict measures to combat the menace of drugs within educational institutions, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students.
To tackle the issue of illegal encroachment on CDA lands, including Margalla National Park, the Prime Minister has ordered a relentless crackdown. This move demonstrates the government’s dedication to preserving valuable natural resources and public spaces for the benefit of the community.
The establishment of the Car City in Islamabad, along with the other initiatives discussed during the meeting, represents a significant step toward enhancing the convenience, safety, and quality of life for the residents of the capital. These developments underscore the government’s commitment to addressing urban challenges and creating a more accessible and sustainable environment for all.
