Rawalpindi: Army Chief General Asim Munir, while expressing good wishes on the occasion of the United Nations (UN) Foundation Day, said that the armed forces of Pakistan are following the principles of the United Nations Charter.

On this occasion, the 78th foundation day of the United Nations is celebrated on Tuesday.

Pakistan joined the United Nations peacekeeping mission on September 30, 1947, and deployed its first contingent to UN operations in the Congo in 1969.

Pakistan has participated in 48 joint missions with more than 230,000 troops in 29 countries around the world, and 170 soldiers, including 24 officers, have sacrificed their lives in UN peacekeeping missions.

The COAS said in his message that Pakistan has a unique history of serving under the UN flag to achieve a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.

On this day, the international community must not forget its shared responsibility to fulfill the collective commitment to the Kashmiris for the right to referendum, rightly secured by several UN Security Council resolutions.
