ISLAMABAD: A protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers against the firing incident on former prime minister Imran Khan on Friday at the Faizabad Interchange turned violent, BOL News reported.
Police resorted to tear gas and fire shells to disperse the protestors at Faizabad Interchange as PTI supporters pelted stones at the law-enforcement officials. BOL News footage showed plumes of smoke after the police resorted to firing tear gas shells and baton-charged the protestors.
The area turned into a battleground as police fired shells at the party activists. PTI MNA Ali Nawaz Awan and local leaders were also present leading the party workers. Police have also arrested several PTI workers from the scene and shifted them to nearby police stations.
The party activists have staged a protest at Murree Expressway and blocked the road to all types of traffic. A severe traffic jam was witnessed in the area causing inconvenience to commuters while police provided an alternate traffic plan.
The Islamabad police requested Rawalpindi’s administration to stop protesters gathered at Faizabad from “illegal actions”. Police said the demonstrators were gathered with sticks, slingshots, and stones and may also be armed. It added the gathered crowd pelted stones at the police.

Police said that it is identifying “miscreants” and will take legal action against them with the help of the Rawalpindi police. The police also pointed out that young children were present during protests and requested parents to stop their children from becoming involved in any “illegal activities”.
Meanwhile, PTI supporters also gathered outside the Punjab Governor House in Lahore to protest against the gun attack on Imran Khan.
The protesters burnt tyres outside the Governor House while some attempted to break into the building and broke CCTV cameras. A scuffle between the police and protesters was reported as well but was quickly dispersed.
Hundreds of PTI supporters have taken to the streets to protest against the gun attack on PTI chief Imran Khan. They are demanding a transparent investigation into the assassination bid.
