Clacton garage wall collapse kills 12-year-old boy

After an Essex garage wall collapsed, a 12-year-old boy died. At around 19:00 BST on Friday night, a man in his 30s was reportedly retrieved from the wreckage at a home in St. John’s Road, Clacton, but the boy perished there.

According to authorities, the youngster and the man, who had an arm injury, were acquainted.

The cause of the boy’s death is not being investigated, but a file will be made for the coroner.

Insp James Hardingham, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of those concerned at this sad time.

“We’re continuing our inquiries to establish the facts leading to the wall collapse.”

The force also stated that the home to which the garage was linked had been deemed safe.

Police have issued a call to action to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time and may have video or information.

In an effort to release the two, Essex Fire and Rescue Service dispatched four personnel to the location.

Station manager Nick Singleton said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with everyone who knew the child as well as the wider Clacton community.

“Our firefighters worked incredibly hard to save both casualties and this is never the outcome we want to see.

“We will be offering further support to all of the firefighters who attended this difficult incident.”
