Indian weddings are large and lavish affairs. The thumping sounds of dhol are so powerful during the celebrations that almost no one can resist shaking a leg to it. Now, New York has had a taste of a big giant Indian wedding, when one family blocked down Broadway for the festivities.
Suraj Patel, a former US Congress candidate, posted a photo on Instagram of his brother’s wedding in New York, where the ‘Baarat’ was seen rejoicing and dancing to Bollywood tunes in traditional dress. The text in the tape said, “We shut down broadway for my brother’s wedding!”
“My heart is so full, for my family to have all been here for such an incredible occasion for my brother’s wedding, so much love and energy on the streets of NYC,” Mr Patel wrote in the caption of the post.

The ‘Baraat’ was seen grooving to Punjabi tunes on the streets of New York City in the video. Several men wearing pink turbans and ladies dressed in traditional clothes were spotted dancing and singing Mundia Toh Bachke.
Mr Patel posted the video on September 25, and it has received over 827,000 views and over 19,000 likes since then.
The video was also posted on various other social media networks. “Damn, now that’s a wedding,” one user said. “Ahh, this looks like so much fun!” added another.”
However, several individuals were irritated since they were blocking a public space. “Why are you allowed to shut down Broadway for a personal event. Isn’t this a grave inconvenience to residents ?” one was written “The ‘Shutdown’ caption did more harm to this post, than the actual event itself,” said another.
Meanwhile, a video of an Indian man proposing to his fiancée in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris had gone viral previously. The man was seen dancing to the hit song ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ from the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ in the video. The video received over 18,000 likes and 7,000 comments.
