Australia wins toss, bowls in T20 World Cup Super 12

  • Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl.
  • New Zealand has not defeated Australia in Australia since 2011.
  • It was cloudy and humid, and the predicted rain had not yet come.

In Saturday’s inaugural Twenty20 World Cup Super 12 game against New Zealand, Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl.

The match at a sold-out Sydney Cricket Ground, where the hosts are defending champions, is a rematch of the 2021 final in Dubai, where Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 77 propelled Australia to an eight-wicket victory and their first championship.

New Zealand, who astonishingly has not defeated Australia in Australia in any format since 2011, has history working against them.

The sole addition from the 2021 winning team is Tim David, who replaces Steve Smith.

Michael Bracewell was noticeably absent from New Zealand’s roster, and all-rounder Daryl Mitchell was not taken into account because he is still recovering from a fractured finger.

It was cloudy and humid, and the predicted rain had not yet come.
