Challan filed against suspects involved in blast near Hafiz Saeed house

LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday filed a guilty challan before an antiterrorism court against three suspects in 2021 bomb blast near the residence of Jamatud Dawa’s chief Hafiz Saeed in Johar Town.

The CTD declared mastermind Samiul Haq and two facilitators –Aziz Akbar and Naveed Akhtar – guilty and asked the court to hold their trial.

The suspects were not produced before the court owing to security reasons.

The court issued notices to suspects for Sept 20 to formally resume the trial proceedings.

In this case, the trial court already handed down death penalty to four suspects on nine counts.

The convicts include Peter Paul, Eid Gul, Ziaullah and Sajjad Hussain.

The trial court also awarded a five-year imprisonment to another suspect Ayesha Gul on charges of facilitating the prime suspects.

On June 23, 2021, the powerful blast near the residence of Hafiz Saeed in Johar Town had killed three people and injured 24 others including a police constable.

Police on Friday said at least one person was killed and three people got injured in a hand grenade blast near Pod Gali Crossroad on Sabzal Road in Quetta.

Edhi sources said the dead and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital and BMC for medico-legal formalities and treatment respectively.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a hunt for the suspects.

Glasses of a rickshaw and nearby shops were broken because of the explosion, which spread terror and panic in the area.

On September 13, at least five people including a Peace Committee member and two police officials were killed in remote-controlled bomb blast in Swat.

District Police Officer Swat Zahid Marwat had said Peace Committee member Idress Khan was also among the deceased.
