Sub Inspector Abid Jutt dismissed for pointing gun on woman

FAISALABAD: Punjab Home Minister Hashim Dogar on Monday said a sub inspector of police, Abid Jutt, was dismissed from his service for pointing a gun on a peaceful unarmed woman in Faisalabad on May 25.

“The relevant authority has dismissed him from his service through a departmental action,” Hashim Dogar said in a statement.

He said Punjab Police was a professional department and black sheep would not be tolerated in it.

On July 20, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had formed a committee over the political victimization of party leaders and workers following the May 25 long march to Islamabad.

The decision was taken during the core committee meeting to set up the ‘Anti-Victimisation and Accountability Committee’ in Punjab.

The committee members were Shafqat Mahmood, Aamer Mehmood Kiani, Yasmin Rashid, Aon Abbas Buppi, Raja Basharat, Burhan Moazzam Malik, and Hafiz Farhat Abbas.

The Terms of Reference (ToR) of the committee had included collecting details of all the cases registered against the PTI members in Punjab and legally withdrawing them.

The committee was tasked to identify officials responsible for any illegal/criminal actions against PTI members and initiate legal proceedings against them. The PTI had also issued a notification over setting up the committee.
