At the scene of a highway collision that he caused, a drunk motorist attempted to rape a woman before attacking those who arrived to assist.
Jason Holmes, 33, of Scunthorpe choked his victim until she passed out next to the crash, at which point he took off her clothes and tried to rape her.
Holmes then assaulted the drivers of the other two cars that were on the hard shoulder before being detained there.
In order to check on the welfare of people involved in the crash, a third vehicle also stopped and joined the two vehicles on the hard shoulder, according to Hull Live.
On September 27, 2017, just after noon, Holmes crashed into the back of another automobile while under the influence of numerous over-the-counter medications.
Between Hatfield and Thorne in South Yorkshire, Holmes was travelling along the M180 in the direction of the intersection with the M18.
At Grimsby Crown Court, he received a six years, eight months sentence.
To charges of attempted rape, reckless driving, sexual assault, two counts of assault resulting in actual bodily harm, and assault by beating, he entered a guilty plea.
Additionally, he is perpetually obligated to register under the Sexual Offenses Act.
The punishment was divided into concurrent 10-month terms for reckless driving, 4-month terms for sexual assault, 1-year terms for both the first and second assaults that caused actual bodily damage, 4-month terms for assault by beating, and 1-month terms for failing to produce a specimen for analysis.
When he is released from prison, he will also be subject to a restraining order barring him from coming close to the victim and an 18-month minimum driving ban.
DC South Yorkshire Police’s Stephen Barnes, who is in charge of the investigation, commended the attack victim for her bravery and role in obtaining the conviction.
He said: “The victim had to go through an awful and harrowing ordeal which will stay with her for ever, and we commend her bravery in helping us with the investigation, re-living those frightening moments and helping us to prepare the case to get her attacker jailed.”
