US pressure: Indian Oil refineries significantly reduce purchases of Russian crude Oil . This move comes after the US imposed new sanctions on Moscow’s leading energy companies.

According to media reports, industry sources have informed that India is making a big cut in its purchases of Russian crude oil.

India has been Russia’s largest buyer since Western sanctions affected  global supply chain.

Now Indian companies are taking precautionary measures to avoid possible disruptions in supply and payment system.

India’s largest private Oil company, Reliance Industries, has reportedly decided to reduce or temporarily stop oil imports from Russia.

According to a company spokesperson, process of changes in Russian oil imports is underway and Reliance will remain in full compliance with the policies of the Indian government.

US Treasury Department on Wednesday gave global buyers until November 21 to end their deals with Rosneft and Lukoil.

Russian Oil, available at discounted prices after Western sanctions in 2022, became the cornerstone of India’s energy policy.

India’s daily imports averaged 1.7 million barrels in the first nine months of 2025.

However, this reliance on Russian oil has become a key sticking point in trade talks between the US and India.
