Onset of monsoon, Karachi likely to receive light rain

KARACHI: The port city is likely to receive the first spell of monsoon rain by tonight or tomorrow morning, said Chief Meteorologist.

The rainclouds have encircled the city and the onset of monsoon season is expected from today with light rain and drizzle to hit first.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said that there is a possibility of heavy rain with a thunderstorm in the city from tomorrow morning while strong gusty winds are also expected before the rain. He said that gusts of up to 60 to 80 kmph could blow during the storm.

The Met department predicted daytime temperature to remain between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius while the wind will blow at a speed of 28 km per hour during the day.

Notably, the second spell of monsoon will rain in Karachi from July 7 or 8, which will last for 3 to 4 days.

On the other hand, with humid and partly cloudy weather prevailing in most parts of the country today, showers with thundershowers are expected in Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Lower Sindh and Eastern Balochistan.

Heavy rains are forecast in Balochistan and Sindh along with the upper parts of the country during the next 24 to 48 hours.
