In an Instagram post on June 7, the Cheaper by the Dozen actress revealed some of her personal challenges, revealing how posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety affect her day-to-day existence in the spotlight after she was raped at the age of 19.

She began her statement by saying, “As a rape survivor, I have suffered PTSD for 30 years.” “It’s never been easy dealing with anxiety and panic attacks all these years. There are moments when my anxiety is so severe that it limits my life.”

Union admitted that leaving her residence or even making an unprotected left turn at a traffic signal “frightens me.” Her nervousness can turn her joy at the prospect of attending a function, such as the Met Gala, into “absolute anguish.”

“Please believe us when we tell you what we’re going through the first time we say it,” she wrote. “No, it’s not the same as being nervous, and everyone experiences and deals with anxiety in their own unique way, which is perfectly fine.”

She stated she wanted to share her story so that anyone suffering from anxiety might feel “not alone” or “extra.”

The actress, who has been married to Dwyane Wade for seven years, previously talked up about being raped. Union said she was raped at gunpoint while working at a Payless shoe store when she was 19 years old in an excerpt released by Glamour in 2017.

She’s openly discussed her desire to “embrace” being a sexual assault survivor throughout the years.
