Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum holds dialogue on Water Rights

Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum holds a dialogue on Water Rights on May 26, 2022, at Sindhi Language Authority, Hyderabad.

The dialogue centered around the issues of illegal occupation of inland water bodies in Sindh and the personhood rights of River Indus and Indus Delta.

Chairman PFF, Mehran Ali Shah while speaking on the occasion said that out of 1219 fresh water bodies in Sindh, 600 are still under the control of influential persons. There is a need to continuously advocate for the issue.

Mehran Ali Shah further said that the late Muhammad Ali Shah developed drafts of Rights of Indus River Act and Universal Declaration on the Rights of Rivers.

And that PFF along with the whole civil society will finalize these draft legal instruments and then will push forward the documents for provincial legislation. Civil society participants made effective recommendations for action planning on the issues discussed in the dialogue.

Ramzan Mallah Central General Secretary PFF, Mustafa Ali Shah, Lead Director Visionary Forum, Zulifqar Halepoto, Aslam Mallah, Communication, Secretary PFF, Amber Leghari from SEDA, Ishaq Mangrio, Shakeel Abro, Director SITCO and others also sploke on the occasion.
