On Friday, China’s Ministry of Water Resources declared a Level-IV emergency reaction for flood management due to the flooding of many rivers in southern Yunnan Province.
The water level measured at a hydrological station in Qiubei Region this morning surpassed the stipulated level by 1.48 metres, according to the government, after severe rains pummelling the county.
Flood control is in a situation of high urgency when water levels surpass the stipulated threshold.
The ministry has dispatched a flood-control working group to Yunnan.
China has a four-tier emergency flood control response system, with Level I being the most severe.
