Pakistani mountaineer Ali Raza Sadpara passes away at Skardu

Famous Pakistani climber Ali Raza Sadpara succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the age of 56 in Skardu Friday morning.

On May 17, the mountaineer suffered severe injuries when he fell from the cliff, this summer he planned to attempt an ascent of K2, the world’s second-largest peak. After an accident, he was rushed into District Headquarters Hospital immediately in Skardu for his treatment and was diagnosed with a spinal cord fracture and broken ribs.

Ali Raza’s last rituals will be performed at Olding village in the city. He initiated his career in 1986, he had the honour of climbing Pakistan’s 8,000-metre peaks 17 times. His conquests were Broad Peak (8,047m), Gasherbrum-II (8,035m), Gasherbrum-I (8,068m) and Nanga Parbat (8,125m).

He also climbed Sia Kangri, Baltoro Kangri and Spantik. Late Ali Sadpara was also coached by him. His death news has disturbed his co-climbers, politicians, journalists and civil society members, they all expressed condolences to the deceased family and called Ali Raza’s death a “huge loss” for climbing.
