On Thursday, Toronto police shot and wounded a man who was wandering down a street with a pistol in a downtown area, causing the closure of five adjacent schools, officials said.
On Twitter, Toronto Police claimed that medics were on the site and that there was no greater concern to public safety. The suspect, whose health was not immediately known, was described as a young man in his late teens or early twenties, according to the police.
The incident happened in Port Union, a neighbourhood north of Toronto’s downtown area. According to the Toronto District School Board, all school lockdowns were removed after several hours.
