According to a senior US defense official, Russian military chief of staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov was recently in Ukraine.
The person refused to reveal why the US was so certain about the whereabouts of the Russian general or what evidence it had that led to the decision.
According to the source, there have been claims that Gerasimov was injured while in Ukraine, but the US has no evidence that he was hurt.
The official stated, “We know he was in Donbas for several days beginning last week. We don’t know if he is still there.”
The US is uncertain as to why Gerasimov traveled to the Russian frontlines.
Yet, officials say that he wanted to witness the operations closely.
