FIFTY senior Russian officers are alleged to have perished in an artillery attack on a Russian command post in the Kherson region by Ukrainian forces.

Ukrainian forces have been attempting to reclaim the Black Sea port city in recent weeks, following its capture by Russian forces early in the war.

Aleksey Arestovich, a senior adviser to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, asserted that the artillery strike dealt significant damage to Vladimir Putin’s forces.

He wrote: “We hit the advanced command post of the Russian army in the Kherson region.

“It is bigger than Chernobaevka. There were 50 senior Russian officers there.

“Their fate is unknown, but I think it is sad news. The command post exploded for a long time.”

Lieutenant General Yakov Rezantsev, commander of the Russian 49th Army, was assassinated in March at the Chernobaevka airfield in the Kherson region.
