Singapore starts offering 4th COVID-19 dose for seniors

SINGAPORE, April 8 (Xinhua) — Singapore has started offering the fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccines to senior citizens aged 80 and above from April 8.

Apart from the 80-plus elders, people who live in aged care facilities, and those at risk of severe disease due to weakened immune systems or have severe chronic disease will also be eligible for the fourth dose, also known as the second booster dose.

On March 24, Singapore’s Health Minister Ong Ye Kung told a press conference that given the emerging international data on the waning of vaccine protection against severe disease over time, it is recommended that these groups of people get a second booster dose.
