BERLIN, April 8 (Xinhua) — Speaking about his teenage years, Domenico Tedesco is reporting about many hours in front of the family’s television set, watching football or following his friends to the nearby dusty pitch.

Until now, the 36-year-old German-Italian has preserved his passion for his favorite sports. After stop-overs at FC Schalke 04 and Spartak Moscow, the former amateur footballer seems to have landed at the right spot.

Since taking over RB Leipzig as the successor of Jesse Marsch in mid-December 2021, his new side is riding the wave.

The upwards trend took Leipzig from position eleven to four ahead of Sunday’s encounter against Hoffenheim and made the East-German team the Bundesliga’s best performer after the short winter break.

30 points in 14 games turned Tedesco into everybody’s darling with the club setting new goals after the season seemed spoiled before.

Meanwhile, Leipzig is the German national league’s only club still competing in three competitions, such as the Euro League last 8-round and the German Cup’s semifinal aside from the league.

Christopher Nkunku’s goals are pushing RB, next to the growing interest of top European sides such as Paris, Arsenal, Barcelona, and Liverpool to sign the 24-year-old French.

Having scored 16 goals like Dortmund’s Norwegian goal-machine Erling Haaland turns the French international into one of Europe’s most wanted – aside from 11 assists.

The latest reports speak of Paris’ advanced approach to signing the buddy of Kylian Mbappe despite his until 2024 valid contract. Rumors speak of at least 70 million euros a possible new club needs to pay to receive his signature.

Under Tedesco, not only Nkunku’s performance is blooming, but the entire team gained stability and consistency.

“This might be the most significant point to explain our upswing,” German international Lukas Klostermann is reporting.

Other than Marsch, the new arrival re-launched the team’s aggressive pressing and dominant ball-possession football implemented under Julian Nagelsmann.

Instead of counting on constant rotation, Tedesco established a regular first eight, only occasionally changing his line-up depending on the opponent and the wanted game approach.

A higher rate of ball possession increased the success of defensive efforts aside from a rising number of scored goals.

The rate of successful passes increased to 83.6 percent and only 4.1 shots are needed to score.

Efficiency in combination with a smart game approach has replaced Leipzig’s highly risky attacking style under Marsch.

Now hopes are growing among fans and within the club, the first significant title can be won.

Tedesco doesn’t too often speak about silverware but instead is talking about constant success.

As he ended up as the national league’s second with Schalke in 2018, he might know what it takes to do the last step to happiness.

How it feels to lift a trophy he witnessed back in his early years when spending most of his time in front of the television following the winners.
