THE amazing moment a Russian tank was blasted to smithereens was captured on video by the brave Ukrainian who planted the lethal explosive device.

The video, which was widely circulated on social media, depicts a courageous Ukrainian laying or crouching down in an open field while filming a tank in the distance.

The footage then cuts to the spectacular moment the Russian tank is completely destroyed in a flash of flames and smoke.

The filmmaker then exits the area as enormous bits of metal fly through the air as a result of the explosion.

The bomb appears to have been planted beneath the tank, with the explosion activated by a cable pull.

The identity of the Ukrainian detonator is unknown at this time, however he is thought to be a soldier.

It is also uncertain whether there were any Russian personnel in the tank.

It appears to have been shot in the early morning, with birds singing in the background.

On Twitter, the video has received over one million views and 46,000 likes.

It was uploaded by Illia Ponomarenko, a Kyiv Independent defence correspondent.

It comes after Russian tanks were blown up in Mariupol after being assaulted by a Ukrainian unit.
