Eric Church cancelled his concert in order to attend Final Four

Eric Church, a country music performer, has angered his fans by cancelling a show to attend the Final Four instead.

The 43-year-old North Carolina native announced the postponement of his concert in San Antonio on Saturday, along with an explanation that he conceded was “the most selfish thing” he has ever done in terms of his fans.

Eric Church has opted to abandon his fans and travel to New Orleans, where Duke and North Carolina will compete for a spot in the national championship game.

“As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I’ve watched Carolina and Duke battle over the years but to have them matchup [sic] in the Final Four for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast’s dream,” he said in a statement to fans.

The performance was scheduled for April 2021, just after North Carolina basketball star Roy Williams announced his retirement. The Tar Heels had just finished a dismal season, so it’s understandable that Eric Church didn’t expect his beloved Tar Heels to be in the Final Four a year later.

Some of his supporters, obviously, were not pleased with the news.

Church’s concert in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday will go on as planned. Church’s next concert after the Final Four is in New Orleans, which means if the Tar Heels win, he’ll have a few extra days to celebrate on Bourbon Street before his next show.
