RAMALLAH, March 31 (Xinhua) — Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye on Thursday denounced his Israeli counterpart Naftali Bennett’s call on licensed citizens to carry weapons in public.

Ishtaye stated in an official statement that Bennett’s call on Israeli citizens to carry guns “is very dangerous and aims at killing Palestinians.”

Ishtaye urged the international community “to ensure protection to the Palestinian people and pressure Israel to stop the actions of the Israeli soldiers and settlers of killing and murder.”

On Wednesday, Bennett said in a televised statement that Israeli citizens who have a gun license should carry guns immediately to thwart any possible attack.

Bennett’s call was made following a series of deadly stabbing and shooting attacks that killed at least 11 Israelis in the last couple of weeks.
