Unisame calls for accountability in government institutions

KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has expressed the need for accountability in various ministry institutions of the forthcoming coalition government, a statement said.

Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver said that no government can keep corruption at its lowest without a proper system of accountability.

There is an urgent need to keep the expenses at low level and to maintain austerity in order to keep the need for borrowing only for expansion projects, infrastructure and productive purposes, he added.

Thaver said that accountability systems are needed in every institution and strict adherence and discipline is required, adding that the question remains who will install accountability systems and what can the citizens expect from the forthcoming coalition government to ensure accountability in all institutions.

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Liaison Committee (SME-LC) members said that there will be no substance in the accountability system until and unless it is sharpened and placed under the superior judiciary.

The country will face corruption and mismanagement if strict accountability is not exercised and liberality not adopted towards accountability in promotions, appointments, contracts, expenses, budgets and conducts, they added.
