Rahul Mankad, the son of great Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankar and a former Mumbai player, died at the age of 66. With his wife and two daughters, he was in London.
Between 1972-73 and 1984-85, the right-handed hitter batted in 47 first-class matches, amassing 2111 runs, including five hundreds and 12 fifties, with a high of 162.
His brothers, Ashok and Atul, were also top-level cricketers. Atul played first-class cricket for Saurashtra, while Ashok represented India.
Shishir Hattangadi, a former Mumbai batter, wrote on Facebook: “Jigga Bhai, rest in peace my friend Rahul Mankad”.
Former India fast bowler TA Sekar also offered his condolences, tweeting: “Shocked to hear Rahul Mankad passed away. Comes from an illustrious cricketing family. True gentleman, good cricketer more than a great human being. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May his soul RIP.”
