MAPUTO, March 30 (Xinhua) — The Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday opened the Annual Private Sector Conference (CASP), the country’s largest business forum for public-private dialogue, in the capital city of Maputo.
The three-day event, in its 17th edition after a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place through in-person and online forms with three main sections: promotion of public-private dialogue, investment conference and business rooms.
A combined turnover of 990 million U.S. dollars from 50 projects covering sectors such as agriculture, energy, tourism and infrastructure will be present at the meeting, said the Confederation of Mozambican Economic Associations (CTA), the country’s largest employers’ association and the event organizer, in a statement.
In his opening speech, President Nyusi appealed to the private sector to diversify investments and to ensure productivity and quality to compete at the international level.
He said the government will continue the work to improve the business environment, especially political stability, and to stop money laundering and terrorism financing.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Mozambican government and CTA for the Implementation of the Private Sector Economic Recovery Plan was signed on Wednesday’s meeting.
The MoU defined the general lines and focus of action to facilitate the recovery of the business fabric and economy, in response to the successive shocks that the economy has been experiencing.
