On Sunday night, when he made a rare post-transition awards show appearance, Elliot Page captivated the hearts of Oscar fans.
The 35-year-old actor revealed that he is transgender in December 2020, but has only been spotted in a few social media images since then.
All of that changed, however, when Page and his Juno co-stars Jennifer Garner and J.K. Simmons took the stage at the Oscars to accept the Writing (Original Screenplay) prize.
Page, dressed dapperly in a black tuxedo, read out the nominees alongside his fellow actors before the prize was awarded to Kenneth Branagh for Belfast.
Viewers reacted positively to his appearance on the show, with a lot of them rushing to Twitter to express their excitement at his inclusion in the broadcast.
“Damn, Elliott Page looks so handsome,” wrote activist Charlotte Clymer, former press secretary for rapid response at the Human Rights Campaign. “That’s a great tux.”

“HOLY S***,” tweeted another viewer during the show. “Elliott Page looks so good up there on the stage at the Oscars. And happy. So happy. Always been a big fan of theirs, I am so happy to see them thriving.”
“I loved Juno, a film that was hated and criticized for stupid reasons,” said another. “Good on the Academy for giving some attention to Elliott Page, whom should still have a lively career yet seems not to.
“I love that Elliott Page transitioned in front of the world while being a celebrity,” commented another. “Good for him.”

Toward the end of 2020, Page announced his transition when he wrote in a note shared on Twitter: “I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.”
“I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey,” he went on. “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.

“I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.”
Sharing his plans to become an advocate for the trans community, he added. “The statistics are staggering. The discrimination towards trans people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences.
“Enough is enough. You aren’t being ‘cancelled,’ you are hurting people. I am one of those people and we won’t be silent in the face of your attacks.”
On March 27, 2022, Elliot Page poses with his “Juno” co-stars Jennifer Garner and J.K. Simmons at the 94th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. After making a rare award show appearance since his transformation, Page has been praised by spectators.
