In a video call with 27 EU leaders on Thursday night, Ukrainian President Zelensky thanked them for sanctions against Russia, but said they were too late to prevent Putin from invading Ukraine on February 24.
“Right now, we’re debating Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.” “At least don’t be late here, I beg you,” Mr Zelenskiy said.
He did, however, criticise Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban for maintaining close ties with Putin while Russia shelled Ukrainian cities.
“Listen, Viktor, do you know what’s going on in Mariupol?” he asked. Please, if possible, visit your waterfront. Take a look at those shoes.
“And you will see how mass killings can occur in today’s world.” And that is exactly what Russia is doing right now.
“And you’re debating whether to allow weapons through or not?
“And you’re undecided about doing business with Russia? It’s time to make a decision. “We have faith in you.”
On Hungarian national radio on Sunday, Mr. Orban slammed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, claiming he was “acting” in front of the camera.
“I’m a lawyer, I come from there, I live with the knowledge that I’ve gathered in the world of law,” he explained.
“An actor, on the other hand, lives and works with the knowledge he has gained as an actor.”
Mr Zelensky, according to the Hungarian Prime Minister, is requesting a “complete shutdown of the Hungarian economy.”
“We will do everything we can,” he added, “but they cannot ask us to destroy ourselves for them.”
Poland’s ruling party leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, is also dissatisfied with Mr. Orban’s cautious stance toward Russia, but he will wait and see what happens after Hungary’s April election, Mr. Kaczynski said on Friday.
“If you asked me if I’m happy, I’d say no, but I’ll wait for the election, and we’ll see after the election,” Mr Kaczynski said when asked about Mr Orban’s stance on Russia.
