Meghan’s patron status at the National Theatre is taken over by Camilla

The Duchess of Cornwall has been awarded a new high-ranking position by the Queen which was previously attained by Meghan Markle. The National Theatre has named Camilla as its royal patron.

It’s the first of the previous patronages of the Duchess of Sussex to be passed over.

After she and Harry retired from royal responsibilities in 2020, Meghan was stripped of her title.

It’s yet another indication of the Queen’s confidence in her daughter-in-law. She approved Camilla as the future Queen Consort last month.

Rufus Norris, director of the National Theatre, said: “The Duchess has shown great support to our industry.”

“The Duchess shares our belief that theatre enriches our lives in so many ways and that everyone should have access to the arts and creativity no matter where they are in the world.”

He added: “I would also like to express my thanks to the Queen for Her Majesty’s long and unwavering support and service to the National Theatre.”
