LOSING THE PLOT Inside ‘psychopath’ Putin’s paranoid world as he ‘purges aides & explodes at staff amid fears his food will be POISONED’

Vladimir Putin

Vladimir Putin is becoming increasingly concerned about his own inner circle as the violent Ukraine invasion takes a terrible toll on Russia’s soldiers.

As the war limps into its third week, the humiliated autocrat, 69, appears to be hunting for someone to blame. Russia is dealing with declining army morale and stubborn Ukrainian resistance.

Russia’s push into Kyiv has been halted by a series of logistical setbacks and resupply issues, indicating that things are plainly not going as planned for the Kremlin.

The Russian tyrant appears to be growing increasingly nervous behind the scenes, fearful that someone close to him could poison him.

Boris Karpichkov, a former KGB spy now living in exile in the UK, said Putin is now “completely losing his mind” over the state of the Ukraine war.

The ex-double agent, 62, told The Sun Online: “Putin lost the war before he even started it – and it happened a long time before this maniac idea flew into his sick head.

“He turned out to be a psychopath really heavily obsessed with paranoid ideas and conspiracy theories against himself and about non existent threats Russia allegedly faces from the rest of the world.”

Putin was cagey and mistrustful long before he stepped into the role of president, Mr Karpichkov said.

The ex-spy said people who knew him before noted his “pathologically abnormal craving for personal enrichment by any means”.

And the Russian leader showed an “absence of any moral principles and barriers, multiplied by careerism, hypocrisy, dishonesty and deceit”.

“I am really disgusted, appalled and sickened that Putin is a former KGB officer, like me,” he said.

“Now, looking at Putin, anyone can judge and consider everyone who belonged to this organisation to be a monster like Putin.

“But being an ex member of the KGB and, then working for the Russian security service, FSB, I can try to expound what thoughts are inside his skull, what drove him to show his true face of the monster.”

Mr Karpichkov said: “Putin doesn’t care and has already started literally marching over dead bodies under his feet – regardless of whether corpses belong to Ukrainians, or to his own Russian fellow citizens.

“Based on the fact that Putin is now using barbaric cluster bombs and missiles and using these horrible weapons against civilians, this is a sign Putin is completely losing his patience and his mind.”

He added: “The fact his troops were unable so far to accomplish the mission Putin put to them, really infuriates Putin.

“What’s going on with Putin and what’s inside his head cannot be explained and ‘justified’ – regardless of whether or not there was allegedly some ‘legitimate’ cause to attack Ukraine first.”

Prince Harry was worried that if he didn’t speak out against the media’s treatment of Duchess Meghan, she would leave him

Prince Harry

It’s been alleged that Prince Harry was afraid Meghan Markle might leave him if he didn’t speak out against the media’s treatment of the Duchess.

The Duke of Sussex issued a furious statement in 2016, attacking the media for the coverage of his then girlfriend Meghan and alleging she had been “subject to a wave of abuse and harassment”.

According to reports, Harry instructed his office to issue a statement attacking the media in response to fears Meghan will leave him.

The statement, written by Harry’s communications secretary Jason Knauf, condemned “the racial undertones of comment pieces” and “the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments”.

The Duke issued the statement as he was reportedly “freaking out” that Meghan would dump him.

His team are said to have felt no choice but to mount a full-on defence of Meghan – claims denied by a spokeswoman for the couple.

A source told The Times: “It did feel like that if the palace was not able to stand up and support his girlfriend, against some of that disgusting coverage… then who in their right mind would ever consider entering into a relationship [with him] in the future?

“He was very exercised about some of that coverage.

“He definitely felt that if nothing was done to support here, then she would be, ‘I’m not sure this is what I signed up for’.”

Another source told the newspaper: “He was freaking out, saying, ‘she’s going to dump me’.”

Queen, 95, has ‘wheelchair-friendly’ lift fitted to favourite Scottish house after quitting Buckingham Palace for good

Queen

As she approaches her 70th year on the throne, the Queen wants to spend “far more” time at her favourite Highlands house.

Craigowan Lodge, on the Balmoral estate, is being surrounded with a steel ring.

According to royal observers, it is one of the 95-year old monarch’s favourite residences.

A £20,000 lift has been installed in the cottage ahead of her ambitions to spend more time at the Scottish Highlands home.

Craigowan Lodge will also get a new security gate, a state-of-the-art intercom system, and a string of CCTV cameras.

The “wheelchair-friendly” Lifton Trio lift is the largest in its range — and comes after sources confirmed the monarch has been struggling with mobility.

She has been unable to walk her beloved corgis due to her requirement for a walking stick.

The lift can carry three adults or a wheelchair passenger, which means the Queen, who is 95, will no longer have to use the stairs to get to her chamber.

She visits Craigowan Lodge, which is located on the Balmoral estate, twice a year, once in April and once in the summer.

Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire is only a mile away from the rustic seven-bedroom stone cottage. In 1981, Prince Charles and Princess Diana spent their honeymoon in the lovely retreat.

A Balmoral insider said: “For many years we have thought it would be the perfect place for the Queen to spend more time when she’s older. It’s one of her favourite places in the country.

“With the proper lift and now this new security, it can effectively be sealed off so she can spend much more time there quietly in her late nineties.”

Plans have been lodged with the local council for the new security measures to stop vehicles or tourists getting near to the cottage — which currently lies empty for most of the year.

The security gate, intercom, and road cameras are scheduled to be approved this summer. At the only other access road to the secluded cottage, a security gate, fence, police sentry post, and CCTV are already in place.

“Craigowan is one of the Queen’s favourite houses,” stated Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine. She enjoys her time there.

“The idea of making it easier for her so she can spend more time there in the future is a great idea.

“It’s a big, big house. The security makes it very safe.

“It makes perfect sense. It’s a home she has always enjoyed and it gives her a bit of independence.”

Royal biographer Penny Junor said of the Queen: “I don’t think we will see her out and about as much as it’s quite clear her mobility is challenged.”

She added: “She does love Scotland but I would not think she would use it (the cottage) year round. It’s a lovely place for the summer but it’s pretty cold and bleak during the winter. But it is a very favourite place for her.”

MEG-A WINNERS After ignoring Prince Philip’s memorial, Harry and Meghan have been asked to present Best Picture at the Oscars next week

Harry and Meghan

Prince Harry and Meghan have been asked to present an award at next weekend’s Oscars.

The couple were approached at the end of last year and offered the pick of gongs.

Harry and Meghan have been asked to present an award at next weekend’s Oscars.

It is understood they were being lined up to reveal Best Picture, the most coveted category of the night.

If the Duke of Sussex does attend, he is sure to face an outcry from royal fans—coming after he pulled out of Prince Philip’s memorial service in London.

The two, both defenders of women’s rights, were originally selected to give the Best Actress award, but this was ruled out because actress Kristen Stewart is nominated for her role in Spencer, a film about Princess Diana’s life.

Last night, a US source said: “Harry and Meghan were first approached two years ago for the ceremony but politely declined.”

“Obviously they’d be a huge coup this year, and could use their appearance to make an impassioned speech of their choosing, most likely Ukraine.

“Show producers Will Packer and Shayla Cowan have lined up some amazing A-list names to take to the stage and Harry and Meghan would be the icing on the cake.

“It’s still up in the air, but in all likelihood — especially in the wake of recent publicity — Harry won’t attend.

“It would be seen as a final kick in the teeth for the royal family if he did — he’s too nervous to fly to London without police protection, but happy to stand up in front of a huge live audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Not great optics.”

An inside look at a top secret plan to defend the Royal Family from a nuclear attack, which includes a ferry, a boat, and bunkers

Royal Family

In the event of nuclear war, Whitehall devised secret preparations to evacuate the Queen and other senior royals from London.

Historians say Her Majesty and key ministers would have been whisked away to remote lochs in Scotland to ride out the attacks on “floating bunkers.”

The Royal Yacht Britannia was one of several planned “floating bunkers”.

Officials began drawing up plans in the 1950s for “continuity of government” in the event of an A-bomb attack. Whitehall and Downing Street operations would have been relocated to a massive bunker at Corsham, Wiltshire, staffed by 4,000 civil officials.

The underground HQ, codenamed “Burlington,” even had a BBC studio so broadcasting could continue.

But the rise of ICBM rockets and fears that Soviet spies knew the bunker’s location meant a rethink after the Cuba missile crisis in 1962.

Instead, critical personnel would be dispersed throughout the UK, with only core support employees remaining at Corsham HQ.

The goal was that some would survive and be able to use secure communications to coordinate the government’s reaction.

The Queen, as head of state, has sole authority to designate prime ministers, so her safety was critical.

Operation Python was implemented in 1968, according to declassified documents released five decades later.

A memorandum from that year noted: “The details of these dispersal plans [Python] are among the most vital of Britain’s state secrets.”

Elaborate plans included using a number of ferries as “floating bunkers” around Scotland’s coast.

The Queen and other royals would likely have been rushed away from London to various country houses – not known royal residences – during the “precautionary phase” when all-out war was feared.

A special unit of 1,300 soldiers was earmarked to guard them.

If there was time before an actual strike-a level three “catastrophic emergency”-the plan was to move the monarch to the Royal Yacht Britannia.

The boat would then

travel between lochs, shielded from Soviet radar by the surrounding highlands.

“The Queen had to be kept separate because only The Queen can appoint a Prime Minister,” historian Peter Hennessy told BBC Radio 4.

“She could not be with the Prime Minister and the War Cabinet because they would get wiped out the moment they operated from this bunker.

“The signals traffic would give the [Soviets] a very good idea of what was happening.”

Castle bunker

For practical reasons, the plan called for the Home Secretary to be on board with the Queen.

The espionage expert added: “The Home Secretary was with her so they could have a Privy Council with the Queen’s Private Secretary, the Duke of Edinburgh and The Queen to appoint the new government out of the ruins.

“She was going to lurk in the sea lochs of the North West coast of Scotland, moving at night from one to the other, because the mountains would stop the radar getting to her.”
