The seat fell vacant after the death of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Pervaiz Malik. The PML-N has fielded his widow, Shaista Malik, while PPP’s Chaudhry Aslam Gill and 17 others are also in the race. Interestingly, the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is not in the fray as its nominating candidates were disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on the grounds that votes of their proposers were not registered in the said constituency, a mandatory requirement under the election laws.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek- e-Insaf leader Jamshed Cheema has announced to not approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the rejection of his and wife’s nomination papers for NA-133 Lahore by-election.
