KARACHI: Former Malir Development Authority (MDA) employees on Friday held a protest outside the Supreme Court Karachi Branch Registry demanding reappointment to their jobs.
The protestors said they had been working at the MDA for 25 years and they were made permanent by the then local government minister in 2016. They said after some time of their acquiring permanent status, they were again included in the list of contract employees and then fired.
“The authorities terminated them to facilitate their more than 1,600 fair-haired employees,” claimed the protestors.
They demanded their reinstatement on the previous positions.
The apex court will hold hearings related to anti-encroachment drive in Karachi and illegal constructions, commercial activities on military land, seizure of the Civil Aviation Authority land today. Meanwhile, a report has been submitted by the commissioner Karachi about the operation against Nasla Tower and Tijori Heights.

The commissioner apprised the demolition work on the said buildings was continued 24 hours, as per the court order.
On Nov 25, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Thursday announced to appear before the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry to present the case of the residents of Nasla Tower.
Speaking to the media outside the Nasla Tower, Naeemur Rehman had demanded the constitution of a high-powered committee that included the Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) and other relevant stakeholders to assist the affected people. “Chief Justice should tell who is going to pay the affected,” the JI city chief had questioned.
