Prime Minister Imran Khan has on Wednesday extended sincere condolences on the sad passing of Arif Nizami, a well-known Pakistani journalist and former caretaker federal minister.
The veteran journalist Arif Nizami was under treatment at a hospital for the last two weeks after he had suffered a heart attack. Following the attack, he was shifted to an ICU, but he could not recover from it and breathed his last today, his nephew said.
Taking to Twitter, the premier wrote, “Saddened to learn of the passing of veteran journalist, editor and political commentator Arif Nizami. My condolences and prayers go to his family.”
He also prayed for the departed soul and condoles the family members.

On the other hand, Minister for Information and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has also expressed his deepest sorrow over Arif Nizami’s death.
He said that he had a long relationship with him. In Tehreek-e-Pakistan, his father Hameed Nizami and my grandfather Chaudhry Owais and my uncle Chaudhry Altaf Hussain were his companions.

Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said he was saddened to hear about Nizami’s demise, adding that it was a “personal loss” for him.

Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab said Nizami was an icon in the field of journalism and had always preferred substance over sensationalism.

Arif Nizami is a Pakistani journalist and former caretaker federal minister who is the founder of Pakistan Today. Previously, he has been an editor of The Nation and has served as Minister of Information and Postal Service in the Khoso caretaker ministry.
