Lahore remains the world’s most polluted city amid severe smog

Lahore: Lahore continues to rank as the most polluted city in the world, with its Air Quality Index (AQI) regularly reaching hazardous levels, peaking at 379. Certain areas, like Lower Mall, have recorded an extreme AQI of 743.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts intermittent rain showers in the coming days, providing the best opportunity for smog reduction.

The city is expected to experience temperatures ranging from a low of 16°C to a high of 31°C in the coming days.

The Punjab government is taking strong action against pollution, demolishing polluting industrial units and sealing factories responsible for the smog.

To combat pollution, 41 modern air quality monitoring systems and drone squads have been deployed to identify and control pollution sources.

Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb reaffirmed the government’s commitment to permanently eliminating smog, emphasizing that clean air is a fundamental right for all citizens.

Experts warn that the hazardous air quality poses significant health risks. AQI levels above 301 are classified as hazardous, meaning residents are likely to experience severe health effects.
