OpenAI’s ‘Orion’ expected to launch by year-end

OpenAI’s upcoming artificial intelligence model, known as “Orion,” is expected to launch by the end of this year, as reported by The Verge. This release is anticipated to coincide with the second anniversary of ChatGPT, marking a significant milestone for the company.

Orion is designed as an advanced version of the existing GPT-4 model and may potentially be referred to as GPT-5, although the official name has yet to be confirmed by OpenAI. Sources indicate that Orion will incorporate new architecture and capabilities, making it up to 100 times more powerful than its predecessor.

However, unlike previous versions, OpenAI does not plan to release Orion widely through ChatGPT at first. Instead, access will be granted initially to select companies closely associated with OpenAI.

This strategy aims to allow these partners to develop their products and features before Orion becomes available to the general public.

Among the companies likely to receive early access is Microsoft, a significant investor in OpenAI. Reports also suggest that Microsoft intends to host Orion on its Azure servers by November, further integrating the advanced AI capabilities into its ecosystem.
