ISLAMABAD: A full court reference in honor of the outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Qazi Faez Isa, is scheduled for October 25.

According to the Supreme Court’s Registrar Office, the event will take place at 10:30 am on that date. Prominent lawyers, including the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, have been invited to the occasion.

Registrar Jazila Saleem informed the president of the Bar Association about the reference through a letter, requesting a copy of the president’s speech for the event. This full court reference is a traditional ceremony held to recognize the outgoing chief justice’s contributions to the judiciary and legal community.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa was sworn in as Pakistan’s 29th Chief Justice on September 17, 2023. The oath was administered by former President Arif Alvi during a ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad.

Earlier, on September 9, Justice Qazi Faez Isa addressed rumors about a possible extension of his tenure. When asked about PM advisor Rana Sanaullah’s statement on the matter, Justice Isa clarified that while he had a meeting with Azam Nazir Tarar, which was also attended by the Attorney General and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Rana Sanaullah was not present.

During the meeting, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar mentioned that the government planned to extend the tenure of all Chief Justices. However, Justice Isa firmly stated that he would not accept an extension of his own tenure, even if it were offered to all judges. He added, “I don’t know if I will be alive tomorrow.”
