  • Cast includes Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, Muhammad Fawad Khan, Khushhal Khan, Uzma Beg, and Salman Shahid.
  • Public criticism for bold narrative and LGBTQ agenda promotion.

“Barzakh,” a series directed and written by Asim Abbasi, known for his film “Cake” and the web series “Churails,” features a cast including Fawad Khan, Sanam Saeed, Muhammad Fawad Khan, Khushhal Khan, Uzma Beg, and Salman Shahid. The series, shot in the scenic northern areas of Pakistan, has faced significant backlash from Pakistani viewers.

So far, three episodes of “Barzakh” have been released on YouTube. The first episode garnered 2.2 million views, the second 776 thousand views, and the third 288 thousand views.

The series experienced a sharp decline in views after the release of the later episodes, as many Pakistanis expressed that the series did not resonate with them due to its promotion of themes they believe contradict Islamic teachings.

The public has heavily criticized “Barzakh” for its bold narrative and perceived promotion of the LGBTQ agenda, which they argue goes against Islamic principles. The series has also faced criticism for the involvement of Indian creators, with some fans believing these collaborations may lead to a decline in Pakistani dramas similar to what they perceive has happened with Indian dramas.

This backlash has extended to the Pakistani actors involved in the series, with viewers expressing disappointment and anger over their participation in the project. A fan said, “Fawad Khan does these characters to make his Indian fans happy”.
