British comedy “We Are Lady Parts,” focusing on the all-female Muslim punk band Lady Parts, is returning for its second season on Peacock starting May 30. The new season will feature six episodes and include guest appearances by Nobel laureate Malala Yousufzai and British comedian Meera Syal.

Created by Nida Manzoor, the series draws from her own experiences in London’s cultural and artistic circles. Anjana Vasan stars as Amina Hussain, the band’s guitarist and a PhD student, with Sarah Kameela Impey playing the fiery frontwoman, Saira. The diverse ensemble cast also includes Juliette Motamed, Faith Omole, Lucie Shorthouse, Aiysha Hart, Zaqi Ismail, and Shobu Kapoor.

“We Are Lady Parts” explores themes of friendship, family responsibilities, and societal pressures on women through the intricacies of each band member’s story.

Nida Manzoor, the creator of the show, admitted that developing the first season was a major undertaking. “It was a trial by fire,” she admitted, “but I found my voice, my style, and my confidence in creating this show.” She emphasized the importance of finding her community within the production team.

Expanding on this groundwork, Manzoor discovered that the process of creating the second season was smoother. “The characters, the world, the tone – it was all there, established, and ready to go,” she remarked. “Now it was time to turn things up to 11.”

The upcoming season of “We Are Lady Parts” will explore the characters’ inner lives while facing new challenges, accompanied by an expanded musical landscape featuring original tracks and covers by the show’s creator and her siblings.

Beyond its music scene backdrop, the series will delve into themes of success, artistic integrity, and commercialization. Creator Nida Manzoor expressed pride in the project and excitement to share it with both existing and new fans.

All episodes of the first season are currently streaming on Peacock, and the series is produced by Working Title Television, a division of Universal International Studios, under the Universal Studio Group.
