Sindh launches first education programme for inmates’ children

KARACHI: The Sindh Government has launched Pakistan’s first-ever programme to support the education of convicted prisoners’ children.

The launching ceremony was held at Central Jail Karachi, attended by Sindh’s Minister for Education, Mines & Minerals Development, Sardar Ali Shah, and Minister for Prisons, Ali Hasan Zardari.

The program has been launched with the joint efforts of the Sindh Education Department, Sindh Prisons Department and Paigham e Pakistan, for providing free education from Primary to University, which will help the children of 4,684 convicted prisoners imprisoned in Sindh prisons from primary to university.

In the first phase, admission letters have been issued to 100 children while data of 2638 children has also been collected. Under which they will be given admission letters in consultation with their family.

According to the provincial education minister, it is the first model in the world to help the children of prisoners get education from school to university.

Under this programme, the data of the children of the prisoners is being taken, based on which more than 10,000 children will be helped to get education from school to university.

The children of prisoners will be able to select public or private school or university.According to Minister of Prisons Sindh Ali Hassan Zardari, the programme will also help to learn the education and skills in juvenile prison.

There are 14 convicted children in Sindh while 56 children are living in jail with their mothers.

According to the Paigham e Pakistan Organizer Professor Mohammad Miraj Siddiqui, the program will provide microfinance of up to Rs.

It should be noted that there are 24,000 prisoners in Sindh prisons, of which 4102 are convicted, while 582 are prisoners of death.

29 hostage injured in Jaffar Express attack moved to Quetta

QUETTA: As many as 29 hostage injured in the Jaffar Express hijacking were shifted to Quetta for treatment by the law enforcement agencies (LEA).

According to the hospital administration, 16 injured were taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH)   and 13 were taken to Civil Hospital Quetta. The condition of the injured is out of danger.

According to the railway police, the martyrs were also among the railway police officer Shamroz.

The injured say the Pakistan Army helped them greatly.

Amjad Yaseen, the driver of Jaffar Express, which was targeted in a terrorist attack while travelling from Quetta to Peshawar, has been confirmed safe.

Yaseen, a resident of Changa Manga’s Chak No 17, survived the attack, as verified by his family. A video of him confirming his well-being has gone viral on social media.

A false reports circulated online claiming that he had lost his life in the attack. However, Yaseen personally called his brother, Amir, to assure him that he was completely unharmed.

Earleir, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Wednesday that the clearance operation, launched after the Jaffar Express train was attacked and hijacked, has been completed with all terrorists present killed.

PM calls for roadmap to take Pak-Uzbek trade volume to $2bln

ISLAMABAD:  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the need to devise a roadmap to work towards the enhancement of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan to USD 2 billion, as had been agreed between the leadership of both countries.

The prime minister, in a meeting with Ambassador of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtaev, who paid a courtesy call on him here, particularly highlighted Pakistan’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Uzbekistan in mining and minerals, railways, including the Trans Afghan Railways project, Special Economic Zones, banking, tourism, culture and renewable energy.

He conveyed his warm greetings, through the ambassador, to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and expressed his deepest gratitude for the warmth and hospitality extended to him and his delegation during their recent visit to Tashkent last month.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his complete satisfaction at the excellent progress made between the two countries during his visit, which included the formation of a High Level Strategic Cooperation Council, as well as the signing of a number of important agreements and MOUs in various fields.

He told the envoy that upon his return from Tashkent, he had tasked the ministers of relevant areas to ensure prompt follow-up on the decisions taken by the two leaders.

The ambassador told the prime minister that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was fully committed to strengthening Uzbekistan’s ties with Pakistan and to transform the excellent political relations between the two countries into mutually beneficial economic ties.
