PM Shehbaz directs strict action against human traffickers

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed for taking of strict legal action against all human trafficking groups in the country to set an example, besides called for immediate legal action to confiscate the properties and assets of human traffickers.

The prime minister chaired a review meeting on measures taken against human trafficking in the country. He appreciated the recent actions taken by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against government officials involved in human trafficking.

Following disciplinary actions, he further directed that strict punitive measures should also be taken against facilitators.

In the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the measures taken against human trafficking, progress in the legal actions against facilitators, and in legislation for the eradication of human trafficking.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam, and senior officials from the relevant departments.

The prime minister said the prosecution process against all individuals involved in this heinous trade should be made more effective, adding the top lawyers should be appointed for prosecution after consultation with the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The prime minister said the Foreign Office should contact relevant countries to expedite the extradition of Pakistanis running human trafficking operations abroad.

He further directed that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, launch an awareness campaign to educate the public about using only legal channels for overseas employment.

Lady Superstar Nayanthara is embroiled in another legal controversy concerning her wedding documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, streaming on Netflix. The makers of the 2005 Tamil blockbuster Chandramukhi have accused her and Netflix of using footage from the film without permission, demanding INR 5 crore in compensation.

The legal notice alleges that clips from Chandramukhi were included in the documentary without prior authorization. According to actor and industry insider Chitra Lakshmanan, “The Chandramukhi makers are displeased with the inclusion of certain scenes from the film in the documentary. They claim these clips were used without obtaining proper authorisation and have now sought legal recourse.”

Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale offers a glimpse into the actress’s love story and her opulent 2022 wedding to filmmaker Vignesh Shivan in Mahabalipuram. The documentary also features snippets from her iconic films, including Chandramukhi.

This isn’t the first legal challenge for the documentary. Previously, actor-producer Dhanush sent a notice over the unauthorized use of clips from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. At the time, Nayanthara dismissed his claims with a bold social media statement.

Known for her powerful role as Durga in Chandramukhi, Nayanthara has yet to respond to these fresh allegations. Fans now await her next move in this unfolding legal drama.
