SIUT students’ volunteer program winter session concludes

KARACHI: The certificate awarding ceremony of the participants of SIUT Students Volunteer Program Batch 57, Winter Session, was held at Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) after successful completion of this week long community service program.

This community service program ignites a spark of compassion in young hearts, immersing them in the realities of the underprivileged. Through firsthand encounters with suffering and injustice, it cultivates empathy, hones life skills, and awakens a powerful desire to serve. Their journey becomes a bridge of hope, empowering them to reach out, help, and become champions for those on the margins.

This program, started by SIUT in 2006, is conducted at its premises during the summer & winter vacations of the schools & colleges and to date, a total of 6775 candidates have completed this well recognized program.

An orientation session was carried out on the first day in which the participants including their parents were informed of the various activities scheduled during the entire week.

The ‘Philosophy of SIUT’ and complete range of its departments & services was discussed at length highlighting SIUT’s mission statement of ‘Free Quality Medical Treatment for All with Dignity & Compassion Irrespective Of their Caste, Color, Creed, Gender and Religious Beliefs’.

In the program, highly informational medical, social, motivational & ethical lectures were delivered.

There were interactive hands on sessions on nursing (vital signs measurement training), skills labs for urology procedures demo, CPR/resuscitation and a visit to view live robotic surgery in the operation theater.

he participants visited different wards and met with paediatric urology/nephrology patients including dialysis & transplanted patients, played games, coloring books, painting and storytelling, etc.

A very emotional and inspiring session was arranged with SIUT patients who shared their life stories & disease experience which resonated deeply fueling inspiration. A practical first-aid session equipped volunteers with essential skills.

The certificate awarding ceremony included inspirational speeches by the junior & senior volunteers who declared the program as a life changing experience.

The parents also shared their views on this program and termed it as a highly informative & motivating program resulting in visible positive change in their children.

PTI moves ECP against interim governments

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has field a joint application against caretaker governments in Elections Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The federal and four provincial governments, 17 District Returning Officers and National Database & Registration Authority(NADRA)  have been made parties in the application of 54 candidates of PTI. Incidents in 49 constituencies have also been mentioned in the petition.

The petition states that PTI is being deprived of its constitutional right by caretaker governments. Candidates, endorsers and recommenders are being arrested from Returning Officers offices.

The candidates said in the application that PTI has submitted the details of the incidents in 49 constituencies. On behalf of PTI, the petition was submitted by lawyer Intizar Panjotha.

It should be noted that the Election Commission of Pakistan has rejected the nomination papers of several PTI leaders from across the country including the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.

On the other hand, the scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by the candidates to contest general elections 2024 concluded on December 30.

Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be submitted until January 3 and decisions on these appeals will be made by January 10.

The list of candidates will be displayed on the 11th of January, and candidates will have the option to withdraw by January 12.

120th Midshipmen and 28th Short Service Commissioning parade held

KARACHI: Course Commissioning Parade of 120th Midshipmen and 28th Short Service Commission (SSC) was held at Pakistan Naval Academy (PNA), Karachi.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The commissioning contingent comprised of 88 Midshipmen out of which 60 were from Pakistan, 01 from Kingdom of Bahrain and 27 from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along with 44 officers of SSC Course including 12 lady officers.

While emphasising on geo-strategic environment, Chief of the Naval Staff asserted that peace and stability in South Asia will remain elusive unless the long-standing issue of Kashmir is resolved in accordance with the aspirations of its people and the UNSC resolutions.

He urged the international community to play its role in cessation of human right violations and atrocities in the illegally occupied Indian held Jammu and Kashmir whose citizens must be allowed to exercise their right of self determination.

During his address, Naval Chief also emphasised the immediate need to end the sufferings in Gaza as indiscriminate use of force on Palestinian civilians is a gross violation of human rights and war crimes that must cease forthwith.

He further reiterated that Pakistan would continue its diplomatic, moral and principled support to Palestinians and urge for a just, comprehensive and enduring solution to the Palestinian question, in line with relevant UN resolutions. He added that Pakistan looks forward to a stable and secure Afghanistan; which is key to regional integration, growth and prosperity.

The Chief Guest felicitated the commissioning term and their parents. He commended the parents for instilling a spirit in their children to serve the nation, which ultimately led them in joining this prestigious Service.
