KANDHKOT: At least eight people including five children lost their lives and several others injured when a rocket launcher shell exploded in a house in Kandhkot district of Sindh province.

According to the police, a rocket launcher shell exploded in a house in Ghora Ghat, a rural area in Kandhkot, as a result of which eight people were killed, including five children, while 5 people were also injured in the blast.

According to the police, in the initial investigation, it has been revealed that the rocket launcher shell was found by the children from the agricultural land and the children brought this shell home.

The police say that as soon as the incident was reported, the rescue personnel were called and they shifted the dead bodies and the injured to the hospital, while the investigation of the incident has also been started.

On the other hand, the Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh Maqbool Baqar has taken notice of the incident and has sought a report from the IG of Sindh.

Anti-polio campaign to begin from Oct 2 in Sindh

KARACHI: A seven-day anti-polio campaign will begin from October 2 in Sindh province where more than 10 million children will be administered polio drops.

A meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Polio Eradication chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Muhammad Fakhre Alam was informed that more than 80,000 polio workers in the 30 districts will be part of this vaccination drive.

The meeting was attended by relevant officials. All district commissioners and deputy commissioners also participated in the meeting via video link.

The meeting reviewed the overall situation of the poliovirus and its containment efforts. Coordinator Emergency Operations Center Sindh, Arshad Ali Sodhar, informed the meeting that no polio cases have been reported in Sindh for the past three years, which is a significant success, and maintaining this success is a significant challenge.

He further mentioned that the training of workers for the polio campaign has been completed, and in addition to polio drops, children will also receive extra vitamin A supplementation during the campaign.

During the meeting, Chief Secretary Sindh, Dr. Muhammad Fakhre Alam, emphasized the need to launch the anti-polio campaign effectively in the current high-risk union councils to achieve desired results. He instructed all deputy commissioners to closely monitor the polio campaign and ensure that their respective officers submit daily reports.

Chief Secretary Sindh also directed the Health Department to ensure that children are administered polio drops at all railway stations and bus terminals. He also instructed education department officials to ensure that polio drops are administered to children in both private and government schools during the campaign.

It’s worth noting that in the upcoming polio campaign starting on October 2nd, more than 10 million children will be administered polio drops, with over 80,000 polio workers and supervisors participating.

President announces remission for prisoners on Eid Milad un Nabi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi announced a special remission of 90 days in sentence of prisoners on the eve of Eid Milad un Nabi.

The remission will be applicable for male prisoners above 65 years of age and women inmates over 60 years, who have completed one-third of their imprisonment. The persons under 18 years who have served their one-third sentence will also get the benefit of remission.

President Alvi approved the remission for prisoners in accordance with Article 45 of the Constitution.

The reduction in sentence will not apply to the prisoners involved in murder, espionage, and anti-State activities.

The other categories without remission include convicts of adultery, theft, dacoity, kidnapping, and terrorism. Also, the remission will not be applicable on those involved in financial crimes and the ones who incurred losses to the national exchequer.

Earlier, President Dr Arif Alvi stressed the need for exploiting opportunities with Bangladesh in areas of trade, investment and culture.

The president expressed these views in a meeting with the country’s ambassador-designate to Bangladesh Syed Ahmad Maroof here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Alvi mentioned that huge potential in trade existed between Pakistan and Bangladesh, which he said, needed special attention.

He said the two countries enjoyed the commonalities of religion and history and emphasized the need to strengthen people-to-people and cultural ties.
