SHC extends stay order about ban on government jobs

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court(SHC) has extended the stay order regarding the ban on government jobs in the province.

The petition of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM) regarding the ban on jobs was heard.

Farogh Naseem appeared in the court on behalf of MQM and he presented the details of the appointment after the court order.

Farogh Naseem said that appointment letters were made on previous dates and this work continued for ten days. He said the law has been made a joke.

Meanwhile, Farogh Naseem requested the Chief Secretary Sindh to call for a detailed report and said that the AGPR should be ordered to stop the salaries and benefits because they have violated the court orders thus a contempt of court has been filed against them.

Farogh Naseem said that the job is being given based on a walk-in interview through the Deputy Commissioner. The medical certificates of previous dates were produced in the hospitals and no party received notice and copy of the application.

During the hearing, Faizan Memon submitted an advocacy letter on behalf of Jinnah Sindh Medical College. He said JSMU has not given any job after the approval of the syndicate and there have been no walk-in interviews. He said jobs have been given to teaching and non-teaching persons.

PM emphasizes significance of war games in validating naval war plans

KARACHI: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized the significance of war games in validating naval war plans in sync with military and national security policy, besides exploring operational concepts and refining deployment strategies.

The prime minister, addressing the debrief session of Pakistan Navy’s war game Shamsheer-e-Bahr IX, lauded the well-deliberated plans of the force commanders and the insightful analysis of the war game, which would help crystallize operational plans for maritime security and seaward defence of Pakistan.

He also highlighted the enhanced responsibilities of the Pakistan Navy in ensuring the security of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and Gwadar Port.

Prime Minister Kakar expressed complete confidence in the preparedness of the Pakistan Navy to meet all threats and challenges, and reassured the government’s commitment to provide all available resources for its capacity building.

Earlier upon arrival at the venue, the prime minister was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi.

While presenting the overview, the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) outlined the objectives of the war game which was conducted in tri-service format, with participants of relevant ministries and divisions as well.

He highlighted various concepts tried during the war game and recommendations pertaining to the Pakistan Navy’s deployment strategies.

Poliovirus detects in Lahore’s sewage sample

LAHORE: The wild poliovirus has been detected in the sewage system in Lahore and number of positive environmental samples in Pakistan has now increased to 17.

This is the third positive sample from District Lahore this year.

The Pakistan Polio Laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH), that is also the WHO Regional Reference Laboratory, said the virus is genetically linked to a virus detected in Kandhar, Afghanistan in May.

Caretaker Federal Minister of Health Nadeem Jan the virus is linked to the virus found in the city of Kandahar, Afghanistan.

The Federal Minister of Health said that the frequent finding of the virus in environmental samples is alarming, therefore, the situation of polio is being closely monitored and in this regard. He said the top expert of the polio program has been appointed in Bannu.

He said that all the necessary measures are being taken on an emergency basis. He said this is the third positive environmental sample from Lahore this year after which the number of positive environmental samples in Pakistan has now increased to 17.

Pakistan’s economic uplift linked with IT development: Arif Alvi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi stressed the need to equip  youth with skills of latest technology saying that the Pakistan’s economic uplift was linked with the development of Information Technology in the country.

He said Pakistan had become the second largest free lance market in the world, however the people were facing issues related to financial transactions.

He underlined that by easing the financial movement and financial transactions in Pakistan, the country’s economy could further boost and its GDP growth rate could increase by 2-3%.

Addressing the closing ceremony of Huawei ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) competition 2022-23 here, the president said IT had now become unavoidable part of almost every filed of life.

He informed that Huawei was going to open its global service center in Pakistan which would create employment opportunities besides ensuring technology transfer to the youth of the country.

“This ICT Competition Program from Huawei speaks volumes of the efforts made in the past decade and how this Industry-Academia Relationship has been thriving towards providing the solid backbone towards the ICT Industry of Pakistan”, he added.

President stressed that the universities should arrange boot camp in the campuses to train the university graduates and make them ready for the market.

He also urged the universities to start two-year undergraduate associate degree programs for the students as the growing technology around the globe does not need degrees but skills.

The students from Pakistan had won second and third prize in the Network Track and third prize in the Innovation Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Global Final concluded at Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China.

He said the political and bureaucratic leadership must also be equipped with the basic skills of IT and modern technology.

He said a program was initiated by the government to train 1000 bureaucrats in IT field but despite several years, only 800 received the required training due to lack of will by the officers.

Expressing disappointment over a high rate of out of school children in the country, the president said 27 million or 32% children were out of school.
