Bolivia chooses Chinese company Catl to help develop lithium deposit

Catl
  • Chinese company Catl, won the bidding process to develop lithium reserves.
  • Bolivia has enormous reserves in the Potosi and Oruro salt flats.
  • Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile share a stretch of salt that contains more than 75% of the world’s lithium deposits.

Catl, a massive Chinese battery company, has won a bidding process to develop Bolivia‘s massive lithium reserves.

The ultra-light metal is used in EV batteries, the production of which is expected to skyrocket as fossil fuels are phased out.

Bolivian President Luis Arce stated that the Catl-led consortium was launching the “historic” industrialization of lithium in Bolivia.

The first phase of the project will cost more than $1 billion (£807 million), according to him.

The world’s largest lithium producers are Australia and Chile, but Bolivia has enormous reserves in the Potosi and Oruro salt flats.

Technical challenges and a lack of infrastructure have long stymied lithium extraction in Bolivia, where reserves are estimated to be 21 million tonnes.

Mr. Arce stated that Bolivia was still in talks with other foreign companies about potential partnerships. According to sources, they include the US firm Lilac Solutions, Russia’s Uranium One Group, and three other Chinese bidders.

Mr. Arce stated that the company’s goal was to begin exporting lithium batteries in the first quarter of 2025.

Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile share a stretch of salt flats known as the “lithium triangle,” which contains more than 75% of the world’s lithium deposits.

Brine is pumped from beneath the salt flats into vast evaporation pools, resulting in the formation of lithium carbonate. However, the technical challenges of lithium mining have raised concerns in South America and other parts of the world about pollution and commercial viability.

Deepika Padukone reveals her skincare routine

Deepika Padukone
  • Deepika Padukone is gearing up for her next movie, Pathaan.
  • Actor took to Instagram to share her beauty secret that keeps her face fresh.
  • Deepika uses a cleanser from her new skincare brand 82E to keep her skin hydrated.

Deepika Padukone prepares for her upcoming film, Pathaan, and also attends parties and events, she spends a lot of time wearing heavy makeup and gets little sleep. The star, though, is not letting her skincare regimen going. Deepika Padukone shared a cleanser from her new skincare line 82E as her beauty trick for keeping her face fresh on Instagram Reels on Friday. Many viewers of Deepika’s video responded by complimenting her makeup-free skin and claiming that she was “glowing” even without any.

In a video she posted, Deepika can be seen applying a cleanser from her own line to her makeup-free face while discussing how it helps her skin seem younger more rapidly. She talked about her “cleaning process” while sporting a brown tank top. She spent “roughly a minute” applying the lotion to her face and neck. She looked in the mirror after washing her face and commented, “Seems very, very hydrated, doesn’t feel dry… (skin) feels plump.”

“Cleansing is one of the most essential pillars of my skincare routine. Here’s how I do it: I take two pumps of Lotus Splash face cleanser, massage gently on my face and neck and pat dry for clean, hydrated and healthy skin. Enriched with lotus extract and bioflavonoids, it helps remove oil, dust and dirt and makes me feel refreshed,” Deepika captioned her video on Instagram. Reacting to her video, a fan wrote, “She doesn’t need makeup… flawless.” Another one commented, “You are very beautiful even without makeup.” Others left comments like ‘glowing’ and ‘gorgeous’.

This is not the first time Deepika has attributed her flawless skin to a product from her new brand. She appeared in a video for her skincare line 82E last year after the actor launched it. On the actor’s face, her makeup artist Sandhya Shekhar was spotted applying goods from Deepika’s line. Prior to Deepika’s debut at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, when she unveiled the trophy before the championship game between France and Argentina, the film was shot. Louis Vuitton, whose international ambassador Deepika is, created the trophy’s packaging.

Alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika will soon be seen in Pathaan. On January 25, the action movie, which also stars John Abraham, will be shown in theaters. The film is Siddharth Anand’s to direct. Additionally, Deepika has Project K, her first Telugu-language film that was simultaneously shot in Hindi and Telugu. Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas are also featured in the film.

Top rights prize awarded to jailed Indian-occupied Kashmiri activist

Kashmiri
  • Martin Ennals Award is one of the world’s most prestigious human rights prizes.
  • Parvez is the founder of the widely respected Indian-occupied Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society.
  • The 45-year-old was inspired to become a nonviolent activist at the age of 13.

Jailed Kashmiri rights activist Khurram Parvez has won the Martin Ennals Award, one of the world’s most prestigious human rights prizes, along with two other campaigners from Chad and Venezuela, with the jury hailing their “courage”.

Delphine Djiraibe, one of Chad’s first female lawyers, and Feliciano Reyna, a rights activist, and advocate for LGBTQ people in Venezuela, are the other two award winners.

“The common denominator among the 2023 laureates… is their courage, passion, and determination to bring the voice of the voiceless to the international arena, despite ongoing, sometimes life-threatening, challenges,” prize jury chairman Hans Thoolen said in a statement on Thursday.

“We are particularly proud to honor these three exceptional laureates who have each dedicated over 30 years of their lives to building movements that brought about justice for victims or delivered medicines to the marginalized,” he said. “In their communities, they have made human rights a reality for thousands of people.”

However, Parvez, the founder of the widely respected Indian-occupied Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, will most likely be unable to attend the ceremony. Since November 2021, he has been detained by India under a strict “terrorism” law that effectively allows people to be held indefinitely without trial.

According to the prize organizers, the 45-year-old was inspired to become a nonviolent activist at the age of 13 after witnessing his grandfather being shot during a protest in Indian-occupied Kashmir.

Parvez was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in May.

20 dead, eight still missing after Tibet tunnel avalanche

avalanche
  • Rescue workers are digging with mechanical diggers in deep snow to locate buried vehicles.
  • Eight people are still missing and 20 people are said to have died as of Friday.
  • The majority of those were Tibetans returning to their hometowns for the Lunar New Year.

Tibet: Following an avalanche in Tibet that buried several vehicles in deep snow and ice on a section of road connected to a highway tunnel, twenty people have been confirmed dead and eight are still missing.

On Friday, images on Chinese state media showed rescue workers digging with mechanical diggers in deep snow to locate buried vehicles when the avalanche hit the road and highway tunnel connecting the city of Nyingchi in Tibet’s southwest with outlying Medog county.

According to the state-run news source, eight people are still missing and 20 people are said to have died as of Friday. Since the avalanche that occurred at around 8 p.m. (12:00 GMT) on Tuesday on a section of road between Pai village in Mailing county and the Doxong La tunnel in Medog county, 53 more people have been saved., It stated that five of the survivors had severe injuries.

Tibetans were returning to their hometowns

According to a local villager, the majority of those on the road at the time of the accident were Tibetans returning to their hometowns for the Lunar New Year, which begins on Sunday.

Vehicles were crushed under the weight of tonnes of snow and ice that collapsed at the mouth of the tunnel, trapping drivers inside their vehicles, according to rescue workers.

Nyingchi is about five hours’ drive from the regional capital, Lhasa, and is located at an elevation of about 3,040 meters (9,974 feet). During the winter, nighttime temperatures routinely fall well below freezing.

According to Chinese authorities, 1,000 rescue workers and dozens of emergency vehicles have been dispatched to the disaster site.

“The snow was so deep it was as high as to people’s waist, and the road is very slippery. “Many rescue workers stumbled all the way there,” said a local healthcare worker.

In the Himalayas, avalanches are common. Last October, a mountaineering expedition was caught in an avalanche on Mount Draupadi ka Danda-II in India’s northern state of Uttarakhand, killing at least 26 people.
