It will benefit from a 2-megapixel macro camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

The V25 also has two SIM slots, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and a USB-C port.

The device is offered in a number of hues, such as Sunrise Gold, Aquamarine Blue, and Diamond Black.

KTBA highlights pharma sector taxpayers issues

KTBA highlights pharma sector taxpayers issues

KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to address the issues of the pharmaceutical industry in filing sales tax returns.

KTBA President Syed Rehan Hasan Jafri, in a letter to FBR Chairman Asim Ahmad said that the pharmaceutical industry is facing various issues owing to recent amendments in the Finance Act 2022.

The recent amendments in the Act suggest that the manufacturer or importer of drugs will charge and pay one per cent sales tax, which would be the final discharge of their sales tax liability in the entire supply chain of pharma products, Jafri added.

“This clearly implies that if a manufacturer or an importer has paid one per cent sales tax on the supply or import of finished goods (drugs), respectively, then no sales tax would be applicable on the subsequent supply of such pharma goods,” he added.

“Reference of serial No 19 of the Fifth Schedule to the Act is not being appeared at the time of declaring sales returns or cancellation through credit or debit notes at Annexure-C.

Consequently, sales returns pertaining to January 2022 to June 2022 made at the rate of zero per cent, are not being declared in the tax periods of July 2022 and August 2022.”

The KTBA president said that the option for reporting exempt sales made by pharmaceutical distributors is not available for the tax period of July 2022 due to which, pharmaceutical distributors are unable to file their monthly sales tax return.

He said that multiple queries have already been raised via emails at the FBR helpline by the KTBA members but no solution or a guideline has been provided by the FBR.

Jafri requested the FBR chairman to make necessary amendments in IRIS so that the pharmaceutical distributors are enabled to file their monthly sales tax returns in a timely manner.

He urged the FBR chairman to condone the due date for filing monthly sales tax returns for the pharmaceutical industry till the issue remains unresolved.

Rupee records sixth consecutive loss

Rupee records minor loss against dollar

KARACHI: The free-fall in the value of the rupee against the dollar continued on Friday on the back of rising import bill as the government moves for the import of essential food items to meet local demand.

The exchange rate witnessed a loss of Rs2.76 to reach Rs228.18 against the dollar from the previous day’s closing of Rs225.42. The local currency fell to the historic low of Rs239.94 against the dollar on July 28, 2022.

The analysts attributed the continuous decline of the rupee to the destruction of major crops, which is expected to result in the surging imports of the food items.

The exports of food commodities are also likely to take a massive hit which will play a significant role in extending the current account deficit, they added.

The government is likely to revise the gross domestic product (GDP) targets due to the devastating floods which will slow down production in various sectors, against the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) forecast of 3.5 per cent.

Pakistan’s trade deficit also widened in August, after witnessing an ease in the previous month, while the analysts predict a further uptick in imports mainly due to the food items’ imports.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data, the trade deficit clocked-in at $3.53 billion in August, compared with $2.73 billion, showing an increase of 28.89 per cent.

During the month, the imports recorded an increase of 20.84 per cent to $6.03 billion, compared with $4.99 billion during the previous month.

However, the foreign exchange reserves of the country got a boost after the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) received inflows from the IMF under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme.

The foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) recorded an increase of $1.16 billion, to clock-in at $8.8 billion in the week ended September 2, following the receipt of the $1.16 billion loan tranche from the IMF.

The total liquid forex reserves held by the country stood at $14.5 billion. The net foreign exchange reserves held by the commercial banks amounted to $5.7 billion.

The country’s current account deficit rose 531 per cent to over $17 billion during the fiscal year 2022 due to massive increase in goods import bill. Overall, the current account deficit was $17.4 billion during the fiscal year 2022, compared with $2.8 billion in the fiscal year 2021, depicting an increase of $14.6 billion.

The local currency remained under pressure since the start of the current fiscal year. The rupee lost Rs23.33 or 11.38 per cent from Rs204.85 to dollar on June 30, 2022 to the current level of Rs228.18.

At the open market, the buying and selling of the dollar was recorded at Rs231 and Rs233.5 at 4:30pm PST.

Apple iPhone 14 series to feature 6GB RAM

Apple iPhone 14 series to feature 6GB RAM
  • Apple’s iPhone 14 series is said to have more RAM than the entire iPhone 13 lineup
  • Compared to the iPhone 13, this represents an overall memory improvement of 50%.
  • The company essentially added more memory modules for both the new iPhone 14 Plus model and the iPhone 14.

Recently, the Apple iPhone 14 series was unveiled for the international market. The highly anticipated 2022 iPhone series debuted with a number of upgrades from the previous model.

According to a recent source, one of these improvements also included memory. Let’s have a look, then.

The current iPhone 14 series, which includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, is said to have more RAM than the entire iPhone 13 lineup, according to a MacRumors report.

The current Xcode 14 beta, according to the claim, has files that show that all of the new iPhones have 6GB of RAM.

Compared to the iPhone 13, this represents an overall memory improvement of 50%.

For those who are unaware, the base model and the tiny model only had 4GB of RAM. Only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have 6GB of RAM.

In other words, the company essentially added more memory modules for both the new iPhone 14 Plus model and the iPhone 14.

Notably, the company’s IDE for creating programs for macOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS is Xcode 14.

Therefore, the report’s main finding is that, for non-Pro versions, the new iPhones have, on average, 2GB more RAM than the previous generation.

Although the RAM size was made public in Xcode, it is still unclear what the memory module standards are. In other words, it’s not apparent if these have the newest LPDDR5 memory or a previous version.

Tata Group in discussions with Wistron to produce iPhones

Tata Group in discussions with Wistron
  • Tata Group and Taiwanese supplier Wistron discussing a joint venture to manufacture iPhones in India.
  • Apple has placed a significant wager on India since it started assembling iPhones there in 2017.
  • Tatas may eventually own a portion of Wistro’s manufacturing operations in addition to cellphones.

The establishment of a joint venture to construct Apple’s iPhones in India is being discussed by the Indian conglomerate Tata Group and the Taiwanese supplier Wistron Corp, according to a report from an international news publication on Friday.

The publication noted, citing people with knowledge of the situation, “The project would be the Indian salt-to-software group’s latest push into technology production as it uses Wistron’s experience in product development, supply chain, and assembly.”

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, has placed a significant wager on India since it started assembling iPhones there in 2017 with Wistron and later with Foxconn, in keeping with the Indian government’s goal for domestic manufacturing.

It wasn’t immediately clear from the story whether Apple was informed of the discussions.

The idea may see the Tata group purchasing shares in Wistron’s India operations, the two businesses constructing a new assembly plant, or both actions being carried out, according to the article.

Although the deal’s specifics are still being worked out, the publication said that Tatas may eventually own a portion of Wistron’s manufacturing operations in addition to cellphones.

Apple fans to pay more for iPhone 14 in Asia

Apple fans to pay more for iPhone 14
  • Apple maintains iPhone prices in the US while increasing them in some Asian countries where the dollar has fallen in value.
  • Japanese customers will pay 20% more for entry-level iPhone 14 than they did for iPhone 13.
  • Apple’s Greater China quarterly revenue decreased by 1% from April to June.

On Wednesday, Apple Inc. maintained its latest iPhone’s prices in the US while increasing them in some Asian nations where the dollar has fallen in value in recent months.

Customers in Japan, where the yen has fallen 24% since September, will pay 20% more for the entry-level iPhone 14 than they did for the iPhone 13, which cost 99,800 Yen ($692.81) when it was released a year ago.

In Japan, the price of the iPhone 13 is presently 107,800 yen. After the Yen declined earlier this year, Apple increased the model’s price by almost a fifth to 117,800 Yen.

According to Credit Suisse analysts, the strongest risk to Apple’s earnings is the strength of the dollar.

In the US and Europe, there is still a high level of demand for Apple products, but given recent price rises and the country’s limited subsidies, pressure is likely to be mounting in Japan.

Apple’s stock was trading marginally lower as the market as a whole fell.

However, despite a 7% decline in the value of the currency, Apple nonetheless priced the iPhone 14 at 5,999 Yuan ($862.42) in China, its second-largest market after the United States.

Apple should be prepared for a decline in demand in China, where the economy has been damaged by a string of COVID-19 lockdowns that have reduced consumer spending, according to analysts.

Following a string of profitable quarters in the region, Apple’s Greater China quarterly revenue decreased by 1% from April to June.

The iPhone 13 is now accessible for 5,399 Yuan in China, where the business had previously announced reductions on iPhones.

Bitcoin surges over $20,000 as USD declines

Bitcoin surges over $20000 as USD declines
  • The most valuable cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, increased by more than 7% to $20,796 on Friday.
  • The second-largest cryptocurrency, Ether, increased 5% to reach a two-week high of $1,717.
  • This would be the second consecutive weekly advance for Bitcoin.

On Friday, as the US dollar fell broadly and markets had reasons to be happy at the end of a gloomy week, bitcoin stormed through the $20,000 mark and was looking at its greatest day in six weeks.

By market value, Bitcoin, the most valuable cryptocurrency, increased by more than 7% to $20,796.

This is a two-week high. The second-largest cryptocurrency, Ether, increased 5% to reach a two-week high of $1,717. On Wednesday, bitcoin had dropped as low as $18,540.

Market participants claimed that there was no specific catalyst for the gains other than the general optimism that was evident on Friday across all asset classes, driven by a decline in the safe-haven dollar and a rise in Chinese stocks.

Bitcoin might record its greatest week in roughly a month if the cryptocurrencies can maintain their gains until Sunday’s closure.

This would be the second consecutive weekly advance for Bitcoin.

The impending “merge” software upgrade, which is anticipated to occur between September 10 and 20, may make Ether more volatile over the weekend.

The update is expected to drastically alter how transactions are handled and save energy use.

While the upgrade is taking place, several exchanges intend to stop deposits and withdrawals.
