Bourse adds 108 points over IMF disbursement

Bourse adds 108 points over IMF disbursement

KARACHI: The Pakistan equity market closed higher on Thursday as investors weigh the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) disbursement of $1.16 billion to provide the much needed support to the rupee.

Ahsan Mehanti at Arif Habib Corp said that mid-session pressure remained over reports of 27.3 per cent CPI inflation in August, expectations for subdued growth in fiscal year 2023 on flood losses and a slump in the global equities.

“However, the robust data of Rs489 million tax collection for August, and the UN’s pledge of $160 million to support flash flood losses played a catalyst role in the higher close,” he added.

An analyst at Topline Securities said that the equities acknowledged the arrival of the funds from the IMF on a welcome note.

“Initially, the KSE-100 Index commenced the day on a positive note. It stayed in the green zone throughout the day and eventually settled at 42,460 points for the day,” he added.

The Pakistan Stock Exchange KSE-100 shares Index gained 0.26 per cent, or 108.93 points, to close at 42,460.08 points. The KSE-30 shares Index gained 0.08 per cent, or 13.08 points, to close at 16,016.49 points.

An analyst at Arif Habib Limited said that the market witnessed a positive session as Pakistan received the tranche of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme.

“The investors’ participation remained active throughout the day as healthy volumes were observed in the main board while the cement sector remained in the limelight,” he added.

As many as 345 scrips were active of which 185 advanced, 132 declined and 28 remained unchanged.

The ready market volumes stood at 248.19 million shares, compared with the turnover of 181.26 million shares in the last trading session.

The companies which reflected the highest gains included Sapphire Textile up Rs84.51 to close at Rs1,244.50/share, and Premium Textile up Rs39.50 to close at Rs699.50/share.

The companies which reflected the most losses included Bhanero Textile down Rs102.77 to close at Rs1,267.85/share, and Sanofi-Aventis Pakistan down Rs100.50 to close at Rs1,239.50/share.

The highest volumes were witnessed in Cnergyico PK with a turnover of 35.62 million shares. The scrip shed 4 paisas to close at Rs5.32/share, followed by Maple Leaf with a turnover of 23.49 million shares. It gained 27 paisas to close at Rs28.89/share. Fauji Cement remained the third with a turnover of 13.81 million shares. It gained 44 paisas to finish at Rs15.46/share.

Jan-Jul 2022: Pakistan produced about 14 MN mobile phones

Pakistan produced about 14 MN mobile phones
  • Local manufacturing facilities produced 14.94 million mobile phone handsets during the first seven months of 2022.
  • 16 million phones were commercially imported.
  • According to PTA data, 46% of mobile devices on the Pakistani network are 2G and 54% are smartphones.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local manufacturing facilities produced/assembled 14.94 million mobile phone handsets during the first seven months (January-July) of 2022 as opposed to 1.16 million ones that were commercially imported.

In July 2022, local factories produced or assembled 0.86 million handsets.

In comparison to the 13.05 million produced or assembled in 2020, this amount was 24.66 million in 2021, an increase of 88 percent.

According to the PTA’s official figures, commercial imports of mobile phone handsets decreased to 10.26 million in 2021 from 24.51 million in 2020.

8.6 million 2G and 6.33 million smartphone handsets are among the 14.94 million mobile phones that were produced or built locally.

According to PTA data, 46% of mobile devices on the Pakistani network are 2G and 54% are smartphones.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $38.804 million in July 2022, up 20.43 percent on a month-over-month (MoM) basis from $32.221 million in June 2022.

This was done despite an increase in local mobile phone production (PBS). Mobile phone imports had negative growth of $67.46 on a year-over-year (YoY) basis from $119.237 million in July 2021, according to its monthly data.

A favorable environment for the production of mobile devices has been developed in Pakistan thanks to the successful implementation of the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) and supportive government regulations, such as the mobile manufacturing strategy.

It has also improved Pakistan’s mobile ecosystem by eradicating the market for fake devices and establishing an even playing field for businesses.

As a result of the development of uniform legal channels for all types of gadget imports, it has fostered trust among consumers.

Sony Xperia 5 IV debuts with larger battery & latest specs

Sony Xperia 5 IV
  • The Xperia 5 IV is Sony’s newest flagship phone for H2 2022.
  • Sony will continue to use Samsung’s SD8G1 processor for its mobile devices.
  • 30W fast charging is supported, albeit you will need to purchase your own charger.

The 2022 phone lineup from Sony has now been completed by the official release of its newest flagship model.

The Xperia 5 IV is still outfitted with flagship hardware, even though it is not as high-end as Sony’s top-tier Xperia 1 IV, which was released in May.

The tiny size and flagship features offered at a lesser cost than the top-of-the-line Xperia 1 IV are its main selling points.

Design & Display

The Xperia 5 IV is almost identical to its predecessor in terms of design. The phone is a whopping 1mm shorter than before and 4g heavier than the previous model, despite having the same 6.1-inch OLED panel with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The display is now 50% brighter than before, and the Gorilla Glass 6 protection has been upgraded to Gorilla Glass Victus. In keeping with Sony tradition, the fingerprint sensor is still on the side, and IP68 water resistance is still present.

In 2022, a flagship phone should honorably recognize the 3.5mm headphone jack’s presence.

Storage and internals

Even if TSMC’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will power the majority of other flagships in H2 2022, Sony will continue to use Samsung’s SD8G1 as usual.

However, even on paper, the difference in processing power is minimal.

The microSD card slot that comes with the 8GB/128GB memory configuration, which is a bit low for a top-end phone nowadays but having the ability to expand is still a significant advantage, deserves honorable mention as well.

The phone comes pre-installed with Android 12 and may be upgraded to Android 13.

Cameras

The camera set-up is almost unchanged as before. It is a typical 12MP triple camera module made up of a telephoto lens, an ultra wide camera, and a primary wide-angle lens.

Only the primary and ultrawide cameras have OIS, although all three cameras have autofocus. A 2.5x zoom has taken the role of the variable 3x-4.4x periscope.

With a fixed focus 24mm f/2.0 lens and a bigger 12MP 1/2.9′′ sensor, the selfie camera has been improved from the Xperia 1 IV.

Pricing & Battery

The battery capacity is increased to 5,000 mAh (from 4,500 mAh) and 30W fast charging is supported, albeit you will need to purchase your own charger.

With a 30-minute charge, the battery may reach 50%, and according to Sony, the cell can remain healthy for up to three years.

Like always, the Xperia 5 IV has a hefty price tag because it is a Sony flagship device. The phone will retail for €1,049 at launch and is available in Green, Black, and Ecru White.

Sony Xperia 5 IV Specifications

  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

Nokia launches eco-friendly phones

Nokia launches eco-friendly phones
  • Nokia has introduced the X30 5G and G60 5G, two of its most eco-friendly smartphones to date.
  • Both phones have a three-year warranty, recycled materials were used in their construction, and promised OS upgrades.
  • Both phones will receive 3 years of OS upgrades, security patches, and a 3-year warranty.

Nokia has introduced the X30 5G and G60 5G, two of its most eco-friendly smartphones to date.

The two phones have a three-year warranty, recycled materials were used in their construction, and promised OS upgrades.

To reduce e-waste, it has also introduced a Circular subscription, however for the time being it is only offered in the UK and Germany.

Design & Display

Nokia X30 5G

The new X30 5G has a frame composed of 100% recycled aluminum and a back made of 65% recycled plastic.

To make it smaller and simpler to ship, the retail package is likewise 70% recycled paper and has no charger.

It has a 6.43-inch AMOLED panel, which is unusual for Nokia phones. It features Gorilla Glass Victus protection, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 1080p resolution.

Under the display is where the fingerprint reader is located.

Nokia G60 5G

The G60 5G is likewise created from recycled materials, but it features a plastic frame as well as a plastic back.

The screen is an IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution, and it is slightly larger at 6.58 inches.

It is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and features a 500 nit peak brightness (down from 700 nits). Since it features an LCD panel, its fingerprint sensor is on the side.

Storage and internals

In comparison to Nokia’s customary Snapdragon 480 5G, both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 SoC.

The X30 5G, however, offers 6 to 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage options, which is more memory than the G60.

Contrarily, the G60 5G is only available in 64GB/128GB storage and 4 to 6GB RAM configurations. Both have a microSD card slot.

Both of these phones will receive 3 years of OS upgrades, 3 years of security patches, and a 3-year warranty in some territories as part of Nokia’s “3-3-3” pledge.

Both phones should ideally live to see Android 15, as they both boot Android 12 out of the box.

Cameras

A 50MP 1/1.57″ sensor with OIS and 4-in-1 binning is featured on the X30 5G. A 13MP ultra-wide camera with a 123-degree FOV serves as the secondary camera.

Despite being able to handle 4K movies, the Snapdragon 695 restricts video recording capabilities to 1080p at 60 frames per second. The selfie camera is a 16MP shooter.

The 50MP main camera of the G60 5G is similarly 50MP, but it uses a smaller image sensor and lacks OIS.

A depth sensor is also present in the 5MP ultrawide camera, which is based on a smaller sensor. It enables 1080p 60 FPS recording much like its X series brother.

Pricing and Battery

The G60 sports a slightly larger 4,500 mAh battery compared to the X30’s 4,300 mAh power cell. On the former, there is a 33W fast charger, and on the latter, there is a 20W charger.

The G60 5G is available for $320 while the Nokia X30 5G costs $530.
