Tecno surpasses Apple in Russia; Xiaomi achieves 42% market share

Chinese brands dominated the Russian smartphone market in July 2022, according to statistics from a survey by MTS, as reported by Kommersant.

Xiaomi has a staggering 42% of the market. Along with Samsung and Apple, the top five also included Realme and Tecno.

Realme recorded the highest growth despite Xiaomi having a sizable market share. The Chinese company outsold both Apple and Samsung in terms of sales to take over second place. In July, it had a 17% market share, up from 13.4% in June.

Even Tecno outperformed Apple by 0.5% of the market. It finished in fourth place with a 7.5% share, trailing only Apple (7% share). Samsung, on the other hand, came in third with an 8.5% share.

In June, the market shares for Apple and Samsung in Russia were 9.7% and 10.9%, respectively.

With a 35% share of the revenue market, Xiaomi was first overall. With a 25% share, Apple emerged in second place. They were followed by Tecno (4%), Realme (12.5%), and Samsung (11%).

In July, 36.7 billion rubles’ worth of 2.3 million smartphones were exchanged hands. The average selling price (ASP), which was 16.1 thousand rubles, dropped by 6%.

Lack of official supplies and insufficient parallel imports are to blame for Samsung and Apple’s collapse in Russia.

For those who are unaware, both of these titans left the nation early this year due to the conflict with Ukraine. They currently have 80–90% fewer supplies than they did prior to the war.

The demise of Apple’s ecosystem in the area caused by the absence of Apple Pay is another factor contributing to the company’s decline.

However, the Cupertino behemoth is outperforming Samsung due to the emotional connection its customers have with the brand and environment.

If parallel imports do not pick up steam by the end of 2022, the combined sales of Apple and Samsung in Russia may decline by 10%.
