India Surpasses 20M COVID Cases; Deaths Mount As Oxygen Runs Out

India has surpassed the national Coronavirus case tally past 20 million on Tuesday, becoming the second worst-hit country after the United States (US).

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has announced a national lockdown as COVID-19 continue to wreak havoc in India.

On Tuesday, May 4, the country has reported 357,229 new cases over the last 24 hours, while deaths surge to 3,449 taking the toll to 222,408, health ministry data showed.

Currently, the country has 3.45 million active cases.

“The only way to stop the spread of Corona now is a full lockdown… GOI’s inaction is killing many innocent people,” Congress MP Gandhi said on Twitter.

On the other hand, infected patients are dying due to a shortage of oxygen in the hospitals.

23 patients in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district in a 24-hour period from Sunday morning due to a shortage of oxygen facility at medical centres.

Youm-e-Ali Is Being Observed Today Under heightened security, precautionary measures

Youm-e-Ali, the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA), has been observed today on 21st Ramadan with full religious fervour and strict precautionary measures due to the prevailing third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

The mourners are requested to hold Majalis gatherings indoors in order to avoid the spread of the deadly virus. This day is being observed to pay tribute to the Fourth Caliph of Islam on the day of his martyrdom.

During the majalis, the religious scholars speak about Hazrat Ali (RA) and mention that his lifestyle is fatal for cruelty and brutality and all difficulties could be over come by making his saying a beacon of light rather all type of fear, harassment and terrorism could also be rooted out by doing so.

On the other hand, the Sindh government has finalized beefed up security arrangements for Youm-e- Ali processions in Karachi on the steps taken to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Police officials said in a statement that strict arrangements have been made like every year and the procession routes have been sealed with containers.

All the shops and markets along the route of the procession were also being sealed while a heavy contingent of police and Rangers would be deployed,. added police.

World’s third-richest man Bill Gates and wife Melinda have parted ways after 27 years of their marriage. They both have three daughters together.

Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and his wife, however, have decided to continue working together despite calling it quits after 27 years.

An official tweet by the billionaire announced the couple’s divorce which states: “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.”

“We no longer believe we can grow as a couple in this next phase of our lives,” he added in the statement.

Furthermore, the couple, who tied the knot in 1994, asked for privacy. They asked the court to not disclose details regarding their divorce, according to media reports.

Aged 65, Bill Gates founded Microsoft in 1975. His net worth stands at an estimated $130.5 billion and he has so far granted $35.8 billion worth of Microsoft stock to the couple’s foundation.

Last year, Gates announced to resign from Microsoft’s board to focus full-time on his work as the foundation’s co-chair.

Melinda Gates, 56, serves as the foundation’s co-chair and is the founder of Pivotal Ventures.

Moreover, launched in 2000, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is the largest private philanthropic foundation in the United States and one of the biggest in the world.

The foundation provided $5.1 billion to grantees in 135 countries in 2019 and employs 1,602 people.

Earlier, the oldest daughter of billionaire tech mogul Bill Gates, Jennifer Gates had decided to get married to her Egyptian boyfriend Nayel Nassar.

Nayel Nassar is a professional equestrian who had represented Egypt during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
